About kind of brake switch

I am shopping for a 20,000# tandem dual gn trailer. I have it down to a Hilsboro 700, a Custom trailer, Donahue or Big Tex. Any ideas out there?

No recommendations, just some random thoughts. I've been looking at trailers for a while, I've got two goosenecks and two little trailers, one a pintel and the other a standard bumper pull. Would like to get down to two that'll do everything it now takes four to accomplish.

Check out electric over hydraulic disk brakes, some are offering this as an option.

If you ever haul hay of lumber and need to use the full length of the trailer you might ask about a fold over plate to extend the trailer floor over the fold up ramps.

Also, springs to help raise the ramps are nice.

The Big Tex factory is only a 3 hour or so drive for me. They're in Mt. Pleasant, Tx. My brother and I drove down and picked up his trailer last year, he saved by buying direct, and they had a model that was slightly damaged by a unskilled guy in there storage yard and he got a futher ($500) discount. If you have the option of buying direct from any manufacture, you might want to check that possibility out.

Also, dealers will sometimes carry new trailers to equiptment auctions this time of year and sell em at a good price, they would much rather sell it at near cost, than pull it back to the dealership.

About buying at an auction, you really need to do your homework so you don't pay too much.

Good luck, Ronnie

I personally think BigTex trailers are way over priced. YOu can get the same quality if you shop around. You are paying for the name. And in texas there are only two suppliers for steel that these trailer manufacturers in texas use. So one manufacturer can not say he has better steal. I bought a 40 foot gooseneck (35 feet of deck and 5 foot dovetail), spring assisted ramps, 20,000# rating (Dexter axles) spare tire, tool box, beautiful trailer. I paid $6300. 00. I pull this trailer for a living hauling all kinds of different items. I have loaded it with 30,000lbs on more than one occasion before and it did great. It is not safe at all to pull that much weight but it was only for a short distance. If you would like more information on the company i bought mine from let me know. They were great to deal with, nice clean operation, easy to work with.

the titan's arn't bad for light duty use, but they are not as well built as the other's i listed. they are a very inexpensive trailer though.

I just happen to see a couple on a lot on my way back from the stealer today. I was looking at the lighter 14k single wheel dual axle model for moving jeeps, etc. The pricing definitlely was attractive. I really like the dove tail set up.

I actually almost bought a big-tex last spring but things changed.

Jim are there web sites to check out the brands you listed?

JMHO Make sure what kind of axles you are getting and how much the empty weighs. I got a real stout 40ft flat With 12k dexters but the thing weighs 9200#.

CornPro Rocks

I have a 24' CornPro with a 4' drop down dove tail and love the trailer. It has the standup brackets for the rams on it and alls you have to do to raise the dovetail is take a floor jack and jack it up. I bought mine with no miles on it and a year old from a dealer in Elnora, IN for $7,880 it is a 25,000lb trailer with dual tandams and pulls better loaded than empty. Good luck and happy Haulin.

A friend of mine has a Donahue...

and it is one awsome trailer. Tandem duals, dove tail that has a fold up/down section for full lenth loading, ramps and heck for stout.

Thanks guys

Never thought I would get so many replies! I have been surfing the trailer sites and found some very nice units. I think I have settled on the Hilsboro trailer. They seem to have a stout trailer and the price is right. Resale of the Hilsboro trailers has been very good around here. Of corse location is a concern ( I live in the nw corner) so dealer location and delivery costs are a huge factor. Such a big decision.
