I would suggest to look for the location holes in the frame that is there on the 96. In the 92 they might not be there. You might have to drill these holes.
 
the part numbers for a hitch for a first gen. are different than the ones for a second gen. a new b&w for a first gen. requires drilling of the frame. so the frame will have to be drilled for sure.
 
I don't think it will come very close to lining up. My buddy's dad had a '91 W250 that he wanted a B&W for. He couldn't find one so he bought just the center part with the ball and reciever and modified it to fit between the frame rails. It attached with homemade 1/4" side plates similar to the ones B&W uses. From the outside, it looked like any other B&W. You had to look close to see the homemade part.
