Bug Out

I've been on the TDR for a while and have owned a 97, 2000 and a 2005. I just bought a 1990 4x4 CTD as a "rattle trap" for the wife and I to work on. She loves the sound of the old diesel and I like the soild feel it has.

Prepare yourself for lots of questions as problems arise. It has a few to start with, but it seems to run good and the transmission feels strong.

I pick it up today so the questions should start tonight!

Enjoy! This will be fun. :D One day I will do a full blown rehab on my truck. It's amazing the crowd those old non-IC trucks can draw when you pop the hood.

Got her home today.

But more like keeping a 1990 from the scrap yard and make it a good weekend vehicle.

I got to looking under the hood and thought, something is missing... ... . Aw, no intercooler! Just bare bones diesel... I even change the engine oil filter from the top side,. .

The first bug is: Driver door outside button wont open the door. Its moving arms around, can see that, but wont open.

is there some aftermarket place that supplies dodge parts, interior trim exterior etc for these oldies?

HISTORY: It was bought new in Auke bay, Alaska 08/26/1990.

Sold in flagstaff, az 10/13/1994

10/10/1995 in dealer stock flagstaff,az

11/95 sold to a person in Williams,az who moved to the phoenix valley, then i bought it...

Thanks and sorry for questions that have been asked before.

HUMM Nice lift get some Meaty tires and go have some fun

welcome to the Crazy Ward better known as the first gen world

Dodge used to have a button repair kit available. I could not say if it is still available or not It's been about 4-5 years since I have done one. If the parts are still attatched you can staighten the bent pieces and maybe reinforce so it doesn't bend/come apart again. There is also an allan bolt in the latch that you can acess through a hole in the door for adjusting the linkage.

button repair

I decided to make my own fix for the 1st gen door button problem.

I looked at it and was trying to figure how to make the door button push the rod another 1/4". The previuos owner put a tire valve stem cap on it..... but not working now. . The door push button has the 3/16" rod on it that pushes the other gizmo which unlocks the door.

After about 10 minutes, I figured a 3/8 bolt would work as the rod on the door button was 3/16" short of unlocking the door. I cut down a 3/8" bolt and left a 1/4" on the threads for the button rod to extend into. I drilled the 1/4-3/8 " stud left of the 3/8 bolt3/16" and used it to slide onto the existing push button with a 3/16" post.

the I installed it and WOW! works great. I sparyed some grease on it and it works like new!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've had (2) 1990 W250's and currently have a cherry (original) 1990 W350 single RW pickup.

Bought my first new in 1990, best purchase I ever made.

Reliable like a rock! Makes Chevy's rock look like paper Mache!!

Welcome to the first gen world! Sweet looking ride. Nice to see no rust! :)

Feel free to ask as many questions as you can! :D

Looking at your button repair thread above..... I think you'll fit in just fine around here!! People like us always find the motivation to chew through the restraining straps every morning!! Sometimes just to pull our hair out while working on a new problem... ... . :D

Awesome looking truck. I had a 89. was the best truck I ever owned, even with the fact there was No ac. Look in the TDR and get the Borgerson steering shaft, you'll find it will follow where you want it to go much better with the new shaft. Banks use to offer an intercooler kit, I had installed one on my 89. I'm not sure if your voltage reg is on the fire wall over the exaust manifold like my 89 had. If it is carry a spare. I had mine fail about 4 times in the 500,000 miles i owned the truck. Seems the heat would kill them.
