Tax Dollars at Work

Well, I dont know what posessed me, but my wife and I came home with a puppie the other night. 5 weeks old.

The pup's mom was wolf, huskie, and german shepherd. Dad was "some BIG fluffy thing". I'm thinking St bernard and/or pitbull. She's BIG and has a boxy head.

She would pass for a bear cub if you didnt know better. Same color/type of fur. Black with a white diamond shape spot on her chest.

C'mon guys, gimme some ideas. I/we tend to not lean towards human names for dogs, but we do need suggestions. The kids that had her were calling her "killer" but I think she looks more like a teddy bear.

We still may end up giving her to a relative, being workers, this requires a lot time to properly train. However I do have to say, she's VERY smart, and seems to catch on after the first lesson.

Right now, were leaning towards diamond (because of the white fur on her) or chili dog, for no good reason.

Names for my pets seem to come pretty easy. Sometimes I have to list a few names before the family accepts one of the suggestions.

I have a Dalmatian named Dakota. This name was my first suggestion and it stuck

My Yellow Lab's name is Montana and this too was a first suggestion. Montana, in maturity, has grown into one of the largest dogs of the breed that I have ever seen, so the name fits.

My middle daughter was given an annoying toy poodle for Christmas one year. That dog runs around, faster than Speedy Gonzalez, so I said he's a scooter. His name ended up being Scooter. He's fun to watch when the squirrels try to raid the feeders. He could catch the squirrels if he wanted to.

I don't know why I thought of State names for the big dogs, but they seemed to fit.

Now, the cats seem to get their names in some strange ways.

My daughter named one of the cats Tails. I don't know what prompted her to name him that, but before he was a year old, he came home one day with a broken tail. We had to have his tail removed and I started calling him Stumpy. I told my daughter she couldn't name any more pets using a body part. The next one might be called Head and come home without one :) I've thought of calling a pet Nuts before though.

One of the young cats is simply called Kitty. I'll be naming him Chew Toy or Chewy pretty soon, because the Lab uses him as a squeaky toy.

Without seeing your new puppy and watching him play, I'd say Bear is a good name, but isn't too unique. Chilly Dog is a good name and sounds different, but makes me think of a Chihuahua.

Doggie Names

Hmm. name for a big, active dog—something short and easy to holler when all you see is tail heading west. How about Turbo?? Good luck, sounds like a cutie. Don't forget—puppies love to eat seatbelts (voice of experience). :D

I've always called my dogs Dog for a few months until their true personallity comes out, usually in that time the dog will go though several names, my current dog is named Zeke but somehow that got changed to Nick???

I had to have my malamute/shepherd put to sleep about a year and a half ago because of cancer. She was about 11 years old and I had named her Rascal. I will probably never use that name again since she was a special dog to me. I think that Rascal really fits well with most dogs.

I now have a miniature doberman named Minnie. She wandered into my girlfriend's front yard one evening about 3 years ago with no collar or any way to identify her. She became a good little sister to Rascal. A couple I know heard about Rascal and offered me a dog that their son had at their rural home. He had moved away and could not take the dog with him and asked them to find a home for her. I ended up with an AKC rottweiler named Sheba. Now she is Minnie's "little" sister.

I also picked up a stray black male cat at work. While trying to come up with a name my girlfriend and I were watching a "Gunsmoke" rerun and, you guessed it, he became Festus.

I really enjoy my pets and they all mean a lot to me. I believe that I probably have the most "talkative" cat in the world. And I know that either of my dogs would do anything to protect me.

Good luck in picking a name!

I have a friend that had a Newfoundland, all black, his name was Teddy. Short for Teddy bear. Real great dog, short life span though, as are the Saints, maybe 8-10 years max. Anyway, you could call her Teddie, being she's a she :D . My dogs are named Baxter, the male and Barkley, the female. Baxter just seemed to fit for him, no real reason for his name. Barkley was named by my oldest daughter after the dog on Sesame Street. Her name fits to a T, she'll bark if she senses a slight breeze  .

Best of luck with your new dog, Eric.

A dog with the bloodline it has,all being rather large dogs, can only be named one name,,THUNDER,,Think of it,once all grown up and you come home to a happy greeting,,You'll understand,as the dog gains momentum running towards you it will sound like thunder rollin or your truck straight piped... ... ... .

Having a few acres seems to give an open invitation to people wanting to find a home for a dog. Do you want a dog is a phrase I hear all the time. At least they ask with dogs. With cats, they just throw them out of the car most of the time. My rottie (Brooke) came from a divorce. My French Beauceron (Dually) was rescued from a puppy mill. Anyway, I like it when they come already named. I have enough trouble thinking up names for baby horses.

Poo Bear?

Had a big ole bear of a dog once with that name..... This one I wanted to name "Teeger".

But he ended up a "Bullwinkle"cause he's a little dense.

This ones name is "Boodro". He is one faithful hound and wanting to drive back to the mountains here... .

Most of our animals name themselves with thier actions. :p

Had a good dog named Bailey. She was a big dog, but never got into any mischief. I guess it is a persons name though... . I always thought it would be funny to name a dog Knucklehead or something like that. SIT Knucklehead. Come here Knucklehead. Go get my slippers Knucklehead. LOL :D

Had the neice over today. She suggested Trouble. I think our other dog would approve, she's a chuhuahua. Her name is Cookie. The puppy is twice her size, and always wants to play. :D

I think Knucklehead is in the running. :D

Rascal is up there too. It's fitting.

I like Liddy, but I dont know if the G man would be flattered? I miss him on the radio. :( I wouldnt use Molly the wonder dog, or Mc Arthur. :)

Sorry, I dont have any way to put up a picture.

Keep the names coming guys, this aint dont yet. I'll keep you posted.

Eric

How about Cummins. Seems like a good name for a guy with a CTD. Think of it going out and calling here Cummins.

Don't call him anything for a while, after living with him a while a name will "come". I have too many dogs and that is how they all got named. My favorite dog is a female Rat Terrier, a high strung little dog that seemed to always be running around and never sitting still. Her name ? That was easy, Turbo.

looking for a mean name?

Given the dog's mixed heritage, and potential to become an unsavory brute, why not name him after the TDR's favorite sphincter... ... . GENE ! :D I don't think the dog would mind.
