I have a 2003 2500HD 6speed, I noticed a binding sort of noise in the rear lately. Sometimes does it taking off, always does it backing up into a parking spot. It sounds like the old clutch style posi when they use to stick or bind, it has Amsoil synthetic gear oil. Also thought might be a universal but I only have 35K on it. I don't tow much, I'd say 5 times a year I take the 4-wheelers on a trip and the trailer is about 1,500 lbs. Haven't taken it to the dealer yet, thought I'd run it by you all first.

Thanks!

Or, lay off the Mexican food!

[I couldn't resist. I second the suggestion to check the u-joints. If it turns out to be a rear axle problem, I'd SAVE THE OIL that's in it and have it analyzed. Send some to Amsoil... see if their fluid might have contributed to the problem. Just an idea. ]

Ryan!!!!!! I always seek out the little family owned Mexican joints ... ... ... . no binding there! :-laf

I've had rear u-joints replaced twice under the 70,000 mile drivetrain warranty, thats where I'd look!

A few posts about the Amsoil causing a noise. I've got it in mine(the newer severe gear version) I called Amsoil about the noise concern and they were like SAY WHAT. But a few posts claimed theirs made noise like binding and changed it out to redline or whomever and noise went away. check u/joints and if needed change the gear oil and insopect inside diff. I'd probably call Amsoil if noise goes away because of gear oil.

Sorry !!

Sorry for the late reply but I just got around to swapping out the AMSOIL in the rear. . it's FIXED!!! No more noise when backing into parking spaces or taking off from a stop. I sent a note to Amsoil but no response yet... kinda makes me wonder about the other oil. I replaced it with Mobile 1 95 140 jumped in took her for a run and no more noise... Oo. Thanks for all the replys!!!
