I've been happily tooling along for 130k with my truck, doing a lot of towing of a 9k trailer. I've always had the shudder on take off with the truck so never gave it any thought.

Last week I picked up a really large load of firewood in the bed and the next day after emptying it. I have a vibration. It's the the shudder, it's a vibration most of the time, really bad on deceleration between 30-40mph. Doesn't matter if the truck is in gear or our or whether the truck is running or not.

So I'm guessing I need to change out the rear driveshaft u-joints. I was going to change out the center support while I was at it.

Anyone else have any other suggestions?

Thanks,

Nick

When my U joints started to bind I switched to a one piece Mopar driveshaft.

Best choice I ever made. The truck is smoother than it ever was when new. Easy job to switch and you end up with a better drivetrain. The U joints in the one piece are bigger too.

Do a search on one piece driveshaft. Many good stories.

Take out the drive shaft. You will likely find one of the u joints are bound up. Mine was the center joint. And yes, there are many happy people who changed to a one piece shaft. The center bearing has been an issue for some people also. The one piece shaft gets that out of the equation.

The joints may be shot but the carrier supporting rubber has sagged and not supporting it anymore.
I went with a 1 piece and it was just about the best mod I've ever made.

yes go 1 piece shaft fixed my shutter. !
very happy now!!!

Several threads on it.
Doesn't cost much more than a full rebuild. .

Unfortunately the one piece driveshaft is on backorder from chrylser with no delivery date listed.

Started also looking for the center support. Is that dealer only for one for an automatic trans? Napa and rock auto only show one for a manual trans truck.

Yeah, they are out too, they listed in Dec that they were out and expected them in 2 to 3 weeks and would take the message down when they were back in stock. Since the message was there, that prompted me to call a buddy at Chrysler and have it look it up in the system for me.
