Pulled the K&N that has been so effective so far in my truck, and replaced it with a BHAF...

Have the truck fairly well settled in mileage-wise, and have just done an oil analysis, so will see if the next few oil analysis' reveal any noticeable reduction in silicon or other related readings...

Man, that BHAF sure LOOKS impressive in there, haven't driven it yet - a few minor loose ends to take care of - but the installation was easy, and that extra filtering area has GOT to help!

I will be very interested to see what the data shows (did you do an oil change at the time you switched to the BHAF though?).

Please post back when you get your next oil analysis results.

Nope, no oil change, and no representation to this as any but a VERY UNofficial/UNscientific comparison...

I have used the K&N filters with Cummins diesels for about 13 years, and many oil analysis in those years - typical silicon readings with a fully broken-in engine usually run around 3 ppm at normal oil drain intervals - however, I am currently in the last third of an extended oil usage test, so the first (next) analysis with the BHAF will be on oil (Delo 400 15/40) with about 20,000 miles on it.

The test AFTER that, with new oil at a normal interval, WILL be more reliable however - but that will take a while at current rate of travel...

I also am interested in your results, I have been running K&N filters for many years also

Sure, if the scientific analysis comes back showing the oil is still good there's no reason to change it other than if you're just stuck on the old school way of dumping oil at specific periods rather than based on hard data.

"Now that you have the BHAF, ditch the silencer ring and listen to that sweet music. "

I dunno - my loss of hearing in the upper frequency ranges might not allow me to hear those glorious high notes! ;) :D

AS to the question about specific outer wraps for these filters, from what I have heard, the foam rubber outers seem pretty ineffective due to being too porous - the stuff I used is hopefully thin enough to provide added protection without overly compromising the airflow I was looking for with the BHAF - time will tell, and I can easily remove it if the filter-minder indicates there is a problem.
