Hey Guys,

Well I finally got my gauges. I got Autometer Ultra-Lite series. I have two questions. The first regards the pyro install. I will be separating the turbo form the manifold, and was wondering if I could re-use the old gasket. If I can't, are they expensive?

The second question I have is where to mount the oil temperature sending unit. Looking around the engine, I see only one possible place. It is next to the turbo oil feed line. Can I tap into this opening, and does anybody know what size fitting can be used with that. This is all assuming that is even and oil sending location. Here is a picture of the location in question:

Brandon. .

You ''could'' use the old gasket, but, with the Cummins shop a short ride from your house go get another one as it will eliminate the possibility of any leaks. Its a good idea to drop the turbo from the manifold to do this(I know, before anyone does the flame job on me, about doing it with the turbo on)it will all but eliminate any chance of shaving slipping thru the turbo.

The port on the oil filter you show is ok for your oil temp gauge. You may also T the oil pressure sending switch located under the P-Pump to do it also(although most guys do it off the filter assembly)... . Hope this helps... ..... Andy

Andy,

I guess I could run over to Harrisburg and see if Cummins has one in stock. However, the last time I went there for a Fleetguard BHAF, they didn’t have one, and said they couldn't order one:confused: Anyway thanks for answering my question on that oil feed port. Do you know what size it is? I’d like to have sender ready to stick in there, to minimize oil from squirting out during the change. Also, should I wrap the sender in Teflon? Thanks.

IMHO, you would have to TRY to mess up the turbo to do so... if you're careful w/ the drill/tap and use lots of grease, you'll have nothing to worry about... a flake or two of iron is going to blow right past the turbine and not cause any damage if they do happen to make it past your best efforts.
