Got myself a new bumper! (now with measurements!)

Went out to my friends, Kyle and Justin's place (from ps.com) this weekend for Kyles Grad Party and to put the bumper he built for me on. For the most part it went quite well, considering Kyle built it without the truck there and just went by some base measurments. With a few cuts and changes, we got it all figured out and on the truck. Still needs a little bondo to smooth it out and then paint it, but it looks great! Only other issue we ran into is that the large holes (6" lights) wont fit due to the core support. Dont know really waht to do as I would have to find a light that is only 2-3" deep MAX. Most 6" lights are a good 6" deep. Found out why Road Armor and the like build their bumpers so deep and stick out so much in the front. I might be able to fit a winch behind the center section, but it would be tight... not to worried about that right now anyway. Hope I can find a light that works... other wise I dont know what to do yet.

That is sweet! I know how much work it is and that looks awesome. Are those laser cut Cummins and Dodge graphics or stickers?

They were cut out with a Computer aided plasma cutter.

GS, yes, kyle built it, the same kid that built the cross box for the stacks!

Very cool!

Gotta build a front bumper for mine. I'm getting tired of idiots running reds in front of me, it's time for some armor.

Wow, that looks great! Looks like it was a LOT of work to fabricate.

Looks like it is cut/shaped for a sport grill. Is that in your plans?

To answer a couple Questions... .

Yes, I want to get a sport grille to cover up the spacing... but I want it chrome... use to see them on ebay all the time, but cant find any right now :(

The center section of the bumper is 3/8" plate steel. the outer parts are 3/16" Plate steel. It actually only weighs about 80-100 pounds. I can lift it myself, but it definately would take a beating unlike our stock bumpers.

He probably would like to build another one for someone... but he built it in High School shop class (pretty impressive for a high school kid huh?) and he just graduated this year, so probably not.

If I did this again... I would have gotten involved a little more in the design, as I really like the bumper, but would have done a few things differently. But over all, I am very pleased. The only thing I really am dissappointed about is that I cant put my 6" pro-comp lights on it... they are too deep for the holes he made, due to the core support :(

If he's not able to make another, then would he happen to have measurements or specs? I am definately a fan of this bumper. I too think most of the aftermarket bumpers stick out way too far. Very nice job.

Painted the bumper... finally.

After a few hours of messing with Bondo filling in little holes and grinder marks... I called it quits. Body work sucks, I will leave that to professionals from this day forward... :-laf Anyway, primed with 2 coats, 4 coats of Dupicolor Spray on bedliner (black) and 3 coats of rustolium Hammered Black later... this is what she looks like.

:D

now I just gotta finish the rocker panels the smae and it will look great!

Nice. I see you have lights now, where from, and what kind?

Just a few questions about your rig if its ok? What size tires are those, what sort of lift, and what is that(plug)? hanging out of your hood over the passenger side light?

I have a 5" Tuff Country lift. 35x12. 5R16. 5 BFG All-Terrains. Plug is the grid heater... I flipped it up when I was painting the core support, forgot it up there. . :p

Lights, I got the 500 series Hellas... they still didnt fit... . I probably shouldnt have, but I trimmed out a couple inches on the Core support. Dont think its that big a deal, but oh well, I could weld a plate in there if I really am worried about it. Basicly, the bumper should have been made a little different, but that is not his fault, he didnt have the truck there to mock it up.
