Competition Different NOS

Competition Nasty....

Just got mostly done upgrading and accessorizing my KLR 650 to where it has traction and is in control.

The stock tires were good for gravel roads, but that is it. For soft sand and dunes and rocks, I needed some upgrades...

Here is a link to where I posted some pics and write-up...

Riding on Dunes with a 400# bike is very tricky! but most trails and stuff with the new tires and lower gear is great now. .

Looks like your having fun. That would be a big bike to run on the dunes. It'd be a big bike to run on the trails around here as well - you'd have it wedged between two trees within a mile from the trailhead on most of our trails. I've considered buying a klr650 for a commuter bike but it would be pretty useless off road for what we do with them around here. Here's my latest off road toy. I bought it just before memorial day weekend and I've got 20 hours on it already. Having a blast!

Here's a video of the trail riding we do around here. I'm on my '89 cr250 which I bought back in march and replaced with the '04 cr250 above (it was a brand new left over):

I had a KLR 650. It was ok on the street. I got it for commuting but after almost being run off the road and seeing how most people don't pay attention I decided road riding wasn't for me and sold it.

I found that the KLR front brakes are seriously under powered during heavy braking. The front forks are also somewhat weak and will twist some. If your going to use that thing in rocks either an upgrade in forks or a fork brace would be adviseable.

I've got a 00 CR250 that I ride all the time. Places a KLR could barely get out of the parking lot. I ride with a group of guys that all have KTMs. One of them is a dealer. They always give me a hard time for riding red but I hold my own. I even towed a KTM out one time, they all like to forget about that day.

Steve, if you ever wander up to AK with your bike I'll show you around.

I did do some improvments to the front brakes. . I bought the braided steel line. . That seems to help. . I put about 5# of air in the front forks and it is said that, do ing that will help it to be more sprite in the rough without damaging the seals...

Got the 14 tooth sprocket and the Dunlop 606's ... . The use of these 2 things helped the off-road ability tremendously!

Got the Odessey battery from that dual star site as well as alot of other things. A taller windshield and now just put on a 130 db air horn from stebil. (Loud)!!

Most of my riding is going to be trail with some around town street and maybe a very once ina while trip so the Dunlops will do good.
