Hey guys, I almost never post in 911 but I am in a spot here. I can't get anything in the truck at all. I turn the key over and the truck acts like normal when letting the heater grid do it's thing then go to start it and bumbkiss. I checked the batteries full charge, check every fuse all are good everyone of them both in cab and engine compartment. Good connections to batteries. If you go back to the cab and just try to turn key to on (not trying to start) you get nothing again. I mean NOTHING, no lights no stereo no elec. anywhere. I am at a complete loss as to where to look. Any assistance is GREATLY appreciated.

TIA

Russell

Good starter contacts? Don't have my FSM handy. Don't know if there is a fusible link that goes to the starter or not. Did you use a meter to check the fuses? I've had some fuses before that passed the visual check, but were blown.

With having a manual transmission, have you checked you clutch safety switch?

Russell,

A thought: You might check the ground points. You have no head lights. I am not a pro but sounds like it could be a bad ground. Other than that i am lost too.

Good Luck!!

Are you sure the batteries do have a charge and aren't fooling you? Does the volt meter sit where it is supposed to?

Assuming it is, check the connections at the batteries. I've had this happen with a single battery, a connection will be loose and arc enough that it carries enough voltage to run a few light draw items. As soon as you try to do the bigger stuff, it stops carrying anything.

A battery that will blow the horn with the headlights on will usually start a car but it sounds like you aren't even getting that.

This sounds like a wire/connector problem at the ignition switch connector on steering column (left side) or igniton switch (but less likely). Pretty easy to check out with test light or multi-meter.

Test light is nice to use for testing fuses.

Double check fuse 2 in pdc that one goes to the ignition switch.

Not sure about fusible links. Did not seen any mentioned in manual (not that they aren't there).

I would think that the pdc took the place of fusible links except for wires that would go directly to a component ( Grid heaters, fuel shut off relay and fuel heater realy I think get wires directly to them).

Looking at pdc diagram fuse 1 mite be the one to look at.

At the ignition switch connector you should have one wire coming in hot. I believe it is on the end toward engine. One wire is the ground I believe this wire is on the opposite end.

fuse or relay is best guess . try swap of relays . check with meeter the largest fuse in box under hood forty amp most likely. check all fuse in dash. check key switch by moving key up down side way while turning switch. Watch out for air bag if so equipped. Ron Bissett in Metro Louisville KY
