I,m on the hunt for some 19. 5's for my truck, and I've noticed most of the tires available for these rims, are speed rated to 75 MPH. Seems low, considering how some of us drive.
Any thoughts on this?

I just spoke with the good folks at Rickson and they said the speed rating must be considered in tandem with the maximum load rating for the tire. I have over 30,000 miles on my 19. 5 Bridgestones and I drive 80 mph occasionally with no problem.

The Michelin's on my 19. 5 Alcoa's are rated for 65mph. I drive 70-75 consistently with the occasional 100mph jaunt. Haven't had any problem but I imagine the speed rating is for the truck the tires are intended for and not something as light as our trucks.

Don't be to concerned about the speed unless your running on questionable tires. And exceeding the load range.
I have had alcoa/Michelin on class 8 auto-transporter hold up very well up to 120 MPH.

Steer Axle 13000. Drive Axle 34000. Trailer Axle 33000.

The main thing to look out for is cracks in the tire near the rim. Also if you plan on driving fast, inrease tire pressure. I used to run 110 Psi in a 100 Psi rated tire on the steer, 105 on the drive axle, cold, as an example. I would recommend 5 Psi over max on passenger type tires. They will actually run cooler. I wouldn't run fast on any tire that I had any doubt about. If you ever run a tire low on air very far, you've probably ruined it and your riding on borrowed time and it probably won't be convenient when it finally blows.
Many times when I was running out west people that didn't watch their tires religously would be in the break down lane very often. The major cause of tire failer is underinflation X Speed/Load = Heat

Happy Trails

ditto the Goodyear Unisteels... I've never even seen a speed rating, but they still look new after 40K+ of my driving... same habits as Jeff, apparently #ad

As always, use caution, keep your tires properly inflated, and inspect them often.

I've currently got 40K miles on my TY303s. A lot of that mileage has been highway, running 75 or better for hours at a time. I haven't yet had any signs of tire problems.
