Traded my 05' in today on an 04. 5'. Got sick and tired of my auto trans shifting funny, hunting and just generally sucking. I am now a proud member of the 6 speed club and will never go back:D

Headed back to a manual soon myself... love the auto in traffic but love the manual more on the open road...

try the auto with the 60hp program of the smarty, it sure is fun playing around with an auto and the smarty, I don't miss my 6 speed at all. add in a burn out, or jumping out into traffic while the tires are at the absolute edge of traction and before you know it you are past where you need to be, and you are left with the thought, man I was just hanging on while that happened:-laf

yeah i hear ya... i wanna get rid of my 05 auto too!!! it just doesnt feel like it shifts right and it just feels to me like alot of the power just disappears between the engine and the tires.

i took my 04. 5 auto down to dealer to diag slipage. they all looked at it and found nothing and didnt notice i had the banks tuner turnt all the way level 6 the entire time (they are clueless about tuners on diesels). Then I decided when it dies to go all out. i added a PPE HOT and she died very fast with PPE set on Xtreme settings. I did a 2WH donut on ice and melted it down. $1500 in towing (with my company discounts) I finally got it to the right person at the right shop. Wade over at NGM hooked me up with everything I wanted. I wanted hard shifts. best clutches money could buy. billet input, race VB, ATS Pan, ATS Converter, and a bunch of other stuff from HTS along with race transmission from HTS with all brand new electronics on trans. wade hooked me up nice and now I can drive hard or hand the keys out to buddies with out worries. I spend alot and considered NV5600 but I am very happy with my decision to have a 48re built tough. Wade at NGM gets very good deals and saved me more money than buying factory direct. considering the NV5600 or G56??? if you live nearby me and I am not in the middle of yet another project your free to stop buy and drive my truck (me riding shotgun over course). I live in salisbury, MD

Derek, i am happy to hear that you are happy with the way things turned out. i wish i could have been there for that project. i only got to see your truck whe it was dropped off. i would have loved to see it all back together and running. you will have to come up and visit us at the track or the shop sometime.

all i got to say is my nv4500 was the best stick i ever had. the dtt 48re in my new truck best auto ive driven. i would take this auto over the stick any day and i love sticks

I hated my auto in my 05 for a long time. then Mr. James Northum came along and changed my love for the truck. DTT auto is amazing.

However, i still want a stick. Its just soo much fun to drive a modded stick that you forget its actually slower than an auto :D

Its fun to read the replys cause so many guys have different opinions. Im not saying I hate auto guys, I just hated my auto. I even put in a good converter, valve body and flexplate. Not the extreme some of you go to, just my budget doesnt alow for a $6,000 auto. I tow a lot and use my truck for work, so I figure Im more suited to a stick shift truck. Some days Id love the transmission others it seemed like it had a mind of its own.

Besides, I imagine with a good clutch this thing will handle some serious power. Am I right????????

You're right - the transmission will hold the power - but the clutch hydraulics may not. I went through 3 hydraulic setups in 55,000 miles with my 01. 5 NV5600. I feel more confident on the road with my 48RE even though I would love to be rowing the gears on the highway.

I agree with the craving for a 6-spd. Manual. I just drove two sets of 6. 7L 68RE Auto and 5. 9L 6-Spd. G56 trucks back-to-back and there was not even a moment's hesitation to get another MANUAL.

Yeah Baby... Brand New '07 5. 9L, 4x4, 3500-SRW, QC Cummins Beast all dressed-up in crystal-black-pearl in the driveway as of LAST NIGHT!

YAHOO!!!!

6-speed,Yeah!

I had a DTT in my old '99 and it was light years ahead of a stock 47re or even the '06 48re demo I drove before ordering my '07 G-56. It's great telling the transmission what to do instead of vise-versa. The granny low and reverse are so much better to work with instead of dealing with the low rpm torque converter crap when pulling onto the leveling blocks when camping. I know an aftermarket clutch will be inevitable, but it's a heck of a lot cheaper than another DTT upgrade. That being said,I love the auto in my Honda Pilot in town.

For trade . . . 2003 2500 quad 48RE will take any all offers . . must have a 6 speed... :-laf

I eat trani's... would rather be eating clutches... .
