After driving alcan at -60 I picked up some error codes. I had an engine light on and the ABS and brake light on but once I got back to warmer weather and better diesel the lights went out and the truck runs fine. while the engine light was on the truck ran normal and all the guages read normal except for one morning @ -35 during start up i had a brief oil pump cavitation I shut it down for a couple minutes and restarted it and the pressure stayed up. the codes are PCU- 0500 , 1693 And ECU-

0216 ,1693 , 0253. Does any one know what these codes are and how to make them go away.

From a 99 manual p216= Fuel Injection pump timing failure... p253 Fuel injection pump fuel valve open circuit... . p500=no vehicle speed sensor signal... . p1693 campanion code it goes with other codes.



Now you can wait till you have 3 complete key cycles that will make the light go off if the codes are inactive but still store them in the ecm or have a shop with a scanner clear and see witch of them come back and deal with them then and hope for the best.

It may have been caused by the severe cold or moisture who knows but I would have them checked out especialy the vp-44 codes.

Unpluging the batteries for 30 mins turned off the 0500 code but left the 0216 and 0253 I had those codes before I took my trip, they must be coming from the EZ chip. the truck seems to be running fine. lots of power and good milage.

The only way to get rid of those codes is to use an OBDII scanner.



I would get concerned with those two injection pump codes. Clear them and then clean and dielectric grease the EZ connections.



What is your fuel pressure? Weak or dead LP is a sure fire way to kill a VP44.



If the codes come back, disconnect that EZ and drive for a week and see if the codes come back. If no, I would say it is time to call Edge and get that EZ replaced. If you bought it in the last year, they will usually replace it for free.
 
Who checks codes for you?

Hey guys,

Who do you get to check the codes for you on our trucks? My check engine light has come on after the truck died a cpl of times but it starts running again after coasting against the engine for 40-50 yrds.

I bought my own scanner. Auto Zone advertises that they will check and clear your codes for free, and I can't imagine that Checker or any of the others would charge to do it.



Dealers and most independent mechanics do charge.
 
Hey. I checked for codes with my OBDII scanner when I discovered my LP was going south. I had the P1693, but nothing else showed up, so I cleared it. Truck's sitting 'til I replace the old LP with a FASS.

Question is, will the OBDII scanner read all of the codes, including those set by the ECM?

I saw a post elsewhere that seemed to indicate a dealer tool (OBDIII?) was required to read them all.

At least, if I had a P216 or P253 would my OBDII show them?

Just to add a bit more to the mix:



Ever since November I was receiving the P216 code for no apparent reason. LP pressure good, etc. Having been through all this before, I figured "injection pump on the way out. "



But then I recalled what first occured in November: I changed to pure #1 fuel for the winter.



So, on the next fill-up, I opted for #1/#2 blend, and have never seen the P216 code again (over a month).



I am tempted to fill up with #1 again to test the theory, but feel pretty confident with my conclusion.



So, the question is: are you using #1 fuel or #1/#2 blend? If you're using #1, switch to the blend and see what happens. And, of course, always use a fuel additive (Howes, PowerService Arctic, etc. ) just to be on the safe side!

auto x-ray makes a good scaner for 300. 00 upgradeable via internet w/pc link u can also do a bunch of other stuff i have one works great if any one needs to use it in ct. ma. nh. email me -- email address removed --

Bout those codes

I am using a blended diesel, So I suppose the 216 code is real. I checked the codes by turning the key on three time and reading the odometer disply then had them verified by the Cummins guys. They think I need a new Injection Pump. I am currently pricing around and even looking into a possible aftermarket pump if I can find one. The Commind North west mechanics say the Bosch remans dont last as long as the new pumps. Any one know of a good aftermarket injection pump for an 02 HO?

Warranty!



You have an 02, and I did not see anything about a fueling box that taps the pump wire, or injectors.
