Lower Mileage in the Rain?

This may not relate to the engines in our trucks, but it's a pretty good story. This happened in my work truck (05 Kenworth T 800 550 hp caterpiller 4:10 rear end)

Me and another truck driver were hauling a load of gas up a small mountain in NW Georgia. We were hauling the same, me 8700 gal gas- he was hauling 8700 gals also but 900 gals was diesel, so he was a little heavier than me.

So we were talking on the C. B. and I found out his truck has a 500 h. p. CUMMINS with a 3. 90 rear end (both trucks have 13 speed trannys)

We start up the mountain and he is right on my rear. I tell him to pull out and go around if he can, and by golly he does just that! He left me pretty good by the time we got to the top.

I guess the morale of the story is you cannot go wrong if you've got a Cummins under the hood!!!! Even in the big trucks where everyone loves Caterpiller engines.

what rims and tires are yall running? your 4. 10 and his 3. 90 are close, but if he had 22. 5 and you had 24. 5 then it COULD even out to a fair race. if both are 22. 5's then i see why he beat you. more of a gearing thing. able to put the 13 speed to a better use with hsi setup vice yours... .

nice to hear about it though...

Thats funny. I run down the road everyday with fellow tanker drivers up & down the hills here in oregon. We often see who can out pull one another. But we haul 11,600 gals of gas grossing 105,500lbs. My little ole n-14 460 cummins pulls ok but no match for the cats I've run up against.
