Took off the hx35 and installed a hx40, had make the down pipe for it and other than that all went well untill the test ride. i now have a unhappy cummins, slugesh on take off exast temp reach 1200° in a heartbeat seems to take a long time to make the boost that the 35 made:confused:im not impressed. any ideas seems it should do better than that!

Bigger sticks, or put the HX35 back. It is about right for RV275's. Is a D-Box a Drag Comp? SNOKING

My friend has an HX40 on his 24valve and it's laggy like yours but once it's spooled the tires will break lose and the rear end slides and there's plenty of power there. The spool of your bigger turbo is nothing compared to the 35.

My HX40 isn't laggy at all, nor that hot. What exhaust housing does it have and did you make sure you don't have any boost leaks? Also, may the auto trans have anything to do with it? I have a stick, so that might make it easier to spool.

im not sure on the housing size, found this turbo at a give away price new still in the box thought it would be worth a try, to find out where do you check the size? at the turbin wheel?

I ran a 40/18 for a long time. Power was Awesome. 457RWHP to be exact, but cruising around it was a dog. I had to be over 2,500RPM to get lightning spool out of it.

I was lucky to get 10PSI by 2,00RPM. In neutrtal I would get 2PSI at 3,500RPM. OE cam, and head.

Now, with my twins I can make 30PSI at 1,400RPM. The transmission sures moans about it, heh.

I like my HX40 yeah it's a little laggy, it was terrible when I still had the stock exhaust manifold, put the ATS 3 piece on it and it improved drasticly, with the stock manifold without spooling my turbo I couldn't get my tires to break loose unless I was turning, now I can get my tires to break loose from a dead stop, I can put it to the floor at twenty and they'll spin as soon as I get boost. I think the laggyness depends mostly on your air flow, and like JFlagg said do you have any boost leaks my old manifold was cracked and could only build about 37 psi now I have it waste gated at 41 and get it there pretty easily

You need more fuel. Or put your 35 back on. In my experience you will never get that thing to light as fast as stock but it will do really really good things up top. My sps 62 is coming off next week to put my 40 back on.

You like your 40 more than the 62 ? I've never tried a 62 but i'd let my PDR 40 go in a heart beat for a 62!

Done some home werk and this 40 has a 18 ex housing like Mcummins said. im not sure if i could untrack the fiver with it like it is. I have a 16 housing on the way to put on it we will see what happens then. im trying to find out if you can go to a 14 with the same turbin wheel. the top end should be ok if i can get a little more out of the hole with the exast temp more in check. thanks for the replys. Harv

Whats yer exast temp? mine 1200° before the boost reaches any where close to air fuel ratio. man when it does:-laf

I can peg my pyro long before i get to 50 MPH. Even when the turbo lights it just doesn't seem to set me back like my old 96 did with a stock turbo. But i'm comparing apples to oranges at that point. Anyhow i'd love to try a 62, or better yet a Turbonetics turbo :-laf

Got the 16cm housing on now i have exast temp back in check, i not getting but 26 psi boost, im going to try and adjust the wastegate to get my 30 psi back. has anyone had any luck shortning the rod on the waste gate?

Finaly got a chance to hook up to the fiver, i still have a problem @ 70 mph 1250° and climbing i could only reach 26 psi on the boost. im wondering is it a chance that the intercooler is to small to flow the air volume the hx 40 supplys?

The intercooler is fine. There are guys making way more power than you running the stocker. You have a boost leak or the wastegate could be stuck open. Do you have a boost fooler of some kind? What is a D-box? The truck could be de fueling if you don't.

Hi James the d-box is like the edge comp. made by superchips. ive checked for boost leaks found none, unhooked the waist gate adjusted it in four more turns, its so tight now i have to put air on it and exstend it an inch to hook it up.

You better belive i do. The only place that sps would outperform my 40 was heavy towing. Other than that the exaust housing was way too small and made way too much heat up top. Not to mention it had to be rebuilt twice in less than 50 thousand miles. My 40 has over 150,000 on it and has been on three diff trucks. Ill deal with a little lag. Im not a turbo expert and both of these were second hand turbos to me so I dont want anyone thinking i am bashing the turbo, It just didnt work for me.
