Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Got the motor out

Joe K. & I got the motor pulled on my black 98 Sunday.



Only took 6. 5 hours with 2 guys working on it the majority of the time.



Everything went relatively smoothly, got the engine on the hoist yet and the truck is outside the shop.



Should have the pump off this week and the head off once the engine stand shows up.



I'll be sure to post pictures of the condition of the cylinder walls as some of you will remember a few were scored.

That will all be taken care of this time around.

Did you ever install that coolant return kit from Cummins? part numbers? My head is off now, so it would be good time to correct that.

Got the head pulled and the front accessories last week.

The rear cylinder appears to have not gotten any worse, you can no longer feel the scoring with your fingernail.

Some of the other cylinders had visible scoring, but they were not deep enough to feel.

I would have snapped some pics, but I brought the camera and no memory card.

When I get out to the shop again I will take some pics!

Got some more dissasembly done, the pistons look great yet and the scoring on the #6 piston seemed to have been caused by carbon between the piston & cylinder.

The rod bearings were on their way out, some of the copper was showing. Crank doesn't look too bad, will probably be fine with a polishing.

What would cause the carbon to do that?
