Checked the archives but didn't find what I wanted so lets ask some experts. On my 97 do I need to change valve springs when I put in a governor kit? Is there installation instructions any where on the web for the governor springs?

As I understand there are differnt kits available, 3000 and 3600 or 3700. It seems to me that if you put the 3000 kit in you wouldn't need to to go with different springs. Give Piers a call I'm sure he can answer your question and also give you a decent price on what you are looking for.

I don't have the kit in my truck yet:D, but from what I understand, new valve springs are recommended...

Just think, you are currently running your engine at less than 3Krpm, which it was basically designed for. You are now planning on increasing your engine speed by 400-500rpm or so, which doesn't sound like much, but this is not a gasser that revs to 6K, in this case a mere 400-500rpm is approximately 15% of your engine's current maximum speed which is kinda alot in my book.

Whether or not you need new springs, I am not sure, that is a question for piers or joe donnelly or someone who is more knowledgeable, but I personally would feel much better about the condition of my valvetrain with some stronger springs in it.

I recomend to people that want to go higher than 3200 to put in the HD valve springs, 3200 and below the springs are not required. 3200-5200 put the springs in. 5200 and above you'll need more than just springs:rolleyes:

On the subject of springs, while my RPM is now cut off at 3100, should I change the governer springs. What I seem to need is faster spool-up of the turbo. (faster boost). I talked to Piers about my pump and I ended up buying a new one from City Diesel in Knoxville,Tenn. They set the pump to fuel at 233cc at 2600 rpm. I still have the drag at low rpm but just want to move quicker.

Thanks

Preston
