While I am doing my lift pump change and other maintenance items, I have the fuel filter, lift pump and such off, I noticed the governor lever could be easily adjusted now. So, I finally want to take the lever adjustment plunge, try another plate I have from the #10 thats been in there forever as well as take advantage of the added access right now.

So I am probably going to put in my custom #100 plate  and get the lever to touch it since it doesn't right now. I know it is the bottom adjustment I need to make from the two, according to the Piers Diesel site :) so which way do I turn it? Can I just adjust with the screw driver, tighten the 10mm set screw a bit, lift the shutdown lever and push the throttle lever forward to see where it needs to be over and over to get it just above the bottom edge of the plate? If I set the lever about 1/4-1/2 way up the #100 ramp to where it gets flat on the plate, what can I expect from performance?

I am rusty on the lever adjustment results, can someone refresh me quickly on what some of the basics of where the lever should be on a #100 plate for example? :) Obviously it depends on how far forward or backward the plate is set at on the pump, but I am going to start with around full forward and set it from there. :)

Thanks, Joe

I started with mine in the same spot your considering, And I set the arm to hit about 3/16" up the plate. Pretty satisfied with the results also.

Not to scare you - but a word of caution. If you screw the adjustment in too far, the screw will fall into the pump. If that happens you MUST fish it out with a magnet. Also make sure the locking nut is sinched down so it doesn't move on its own. I don't exactly recall how I did it as it was a while ago, but I'm pretty sure I propped the shut off lever up. I think I might have had the accelerator forward too. Cycle it a few times by hand to make sure the lever doesn't go under the plate.

Thanks for the word of caution, vssman. Doesn't scare me but good advice to keep in mind.

Didn't get around to adjusting the lever as I wanted to make sure my lift pump swap was problem free instead of throwing another variable in there like more fuel from plate and lever adjustment. Runs great since the pump replacement, idles much smoother. Will be trying the lever adjustment this weekend, so any other advice is appricated. :D

Thanks, Joe

Ya, When you check for gov arm travel using the accelerator lever, youve gotta hold up on the fuel shutoff solenoid.

We did Garys pump & it was the 10mm socket that popped off & ka-bluped to the bottom of the pump. :{ :--) It's pretty easy to do too. When you pull out the socket, be careful the back of the socket doesn't catch on the inside of the opening in the pump.

It took a magnet on a flexable shaft to get it out. Not just a jointed shaft, every bit of the shaft needed to be flexable to get it out ... tried a couple different magnets too. :-laf
