35 mpg ?

vibration damper?

Ok, got a new '98 GMC 6500 bucket truck at work with a 3126 cat under the hood. It governs out at 2400 rpm! Top speed is 65 mph. Does anyone know how to turn the governor up on these? I'd like to see at least 3 grand with this thing! Thanks.

Was talking with a diesel tech last week, and he mentioned working on the small Cat motors... . said he can mildly bomb a 3116, but no one can do a single thing to the 3126 electric motors. Actually, he's the first person Ive ever talked to that was even WILLING to turn up a Cat!! Know the little bit that I know, I think you're stuck with what you got. Sorry you dont have an 8. 3 in there... ...

I dont know, that things gotta run higher than 2400 rpm! I think it was a rental truck in its previous life and was intentionally set back.

I've got bad news for ya...

the 3126 is electronically governed. The only hope would be take it to the "Cat-house"and let them turn it up. And Happy birthday Burkey;) . Doug

The 3126e is an electronic engine. It has the HEUI fuel system just like the powerjoke.

The only way to uprate this engine is to reflash the ecw with a different flashfile this requires Electronic Technition or ET for short.

ET is cats program to communicate with the ECMs.

Depending on what HP rating you already have, will tell you how much it can be uprated without changing turbo, pistons, and injectors.

The high idle setting can be changed, but requires ET and factory passwords. To obtain the factory passwords you must get them from the cat data base. You must give them a reason for wanting to do this. More than likely they will void warintee if changes are made without changind the mechanical end of it.

Cat has a pretty fool proof method of proctecting the ecm from tamper.

P. S. be sure you change your oil regulary. That is the biggest problem with the HEUI engine.

The ISC is also governed to 2400 rpm.

Mine regularly sees 2600rpm when accelerating and shifting.

But it has the 330/860 fire-RV program in it.

There must be some serious gearing to be running 2400rpm at only 65mph!! I'm at 1800rpm at that speed.

DOGS

Yea,We've got all G. M. C. 8500's here at work some of them are 3116s,some are 3126s(newer ones are 26s). They're all on a 4wd chassis(power co. and rough terrain up here)and are heavy. It seems like the 16s run a little better(mechanical). Gear ratio is 6. 50-1 so top end isn't very high. They all have Allison autos and are pure DOGS. The linemen would love to see 65 m. p. h. But we're talking about a 50-60k lb. truck rated at 210 h. p. These Cats are capable of 300 h. p. but the Allison won't take the abuse. It's a shame that my little 7000lb pickup makes more power than these things ;) . Doug

I was waiting for you to chime in Doug, I figured you knew about these things since you work for AP. This bucket truck is only 18000 lbs I think, and has a manual transmission so it probably doesn't go too bad compared to those AP monsters. Thanks for all your info guys.

2400 RPM!!!!!

Getting a cat 3126 to spin faster than 2400 RPM you are then going into no man's land. Most Cat motors are goverened lower than that. Just get rid of that motor and put in a real CAT motor. A 3406, C-15 14. 6 or C-16 15. 8 literOo. Oo.

Really, The goverened speed of a 3216b motor is 2500 rpm when it is configured to put out 210 bHp or less. From 230 bHp to 330 bHp it is limited to 2400 rpm. This is stock rating from CAT.
