What role, if any, does the governor shaft adjustment play in runaway. Basically wondering if adjusting one way or the other would allow more fuel w/o runaway.
The proper method is the retain the factory adjustment even in a modified pump. I have never spent time with a pump on the test bench and cannot say if this would change the run-a-way point. To perform this on the truck could be problematic as it is tough to get to when mounted to the timing gear case.
I'd have to read through the tech book and see if this is an adjustment mentioned.
I left it where it was, but I was tinkering with it when I had the pump off the truck and just got to wondering. Thanks for the reply and let me know what you find in the book.
There is a good bit of reading and it is sorta dry. I haven't anything about that adjustment in the operational manual. The manual mentioned that this sets the location of the governor assy. Not "what it would do if the adjustment isn't correct"
This portion of the gov assy has the sliding sleeve which imparts the force of the flyweights onto the starting spring which exerts for onto (about) seven other items I won't list at this time.
I canot answer your question. I do know who might be able to... ... ... ... . A pump tech on another web site.
The manual tells me that this sets the "initial position" That is when the pump is at rest.
