Child Seat Anchors???

I've been reading some of the technical manuals from Bosch on injection pumps (thanks, ilflem). This one is about governors. Does anyone know what the type and desgnation is on our P7100? I can't locate a plate on mine that would tell (not that I've looked that hard).

Designations are a letter code, like RQ, RQU, RS, RSF, RQV, etc. Governor types are minimum-maximum-speed, maximum-speed only, variable-speed, etc. I'd guess ours is a variable. If it matters, mine is an early '98 5speed.

Any help (illflem?)?

TIA,

Jay

Found my answer

No sooner had I posted my question then I realized master researcher Donnelly may have my answer in his article in the latest publication. Sure enough. Our pumps use the RQV-K governor.

Illflem,

I haven't gotten through them both, yet. The Bosch manual packs a lot of info in a short space and assumes a certain level of knowledge, so portions of it sometimes requires reading more than once. I'll let you know when I get there. (A 2 yr old and a 4-1/2 year old in the house makes it tough to find the time! I think my wife undstands why I spend a lot of time in the "reading room" ;) )

The first one I read, on the injection pump itself (the one you posted a link to a few weeks ago), helped a lot with the understanding of how they work. But in 56 pages or some such there is a lot there and they talk about all various pumps they make, not just the P7100.

I was able to get mine at Waldenbooks. If you do a search in their online store, you'll probably be able to turn it up. The reading is very dry. I minored in physics and still had to put the thing down every once in a while just to get a level head.

Finally got through the books

Illflem,

I finally got the time last evening to finish the second book and read Joe's article in the latest TDR.

In comparison, Joe's article is good, overall description of the pump. It addressed the AFC whereas neither of the 2 Bosch books did, specifically. But I obviously read them in reverse order. Read Joe's article to get a high-level overview, then read the Bosch books for more detail.

The 2 books talk about all(?) the cam-driven injection pumps and governors they make, respectively, so you have to decide whether to read all of it or try to concentrate on just what's in our trucks. They pack a lot of concepts into a short space. You really have to have a mind that can grasp the mechanical relations and movements of the various parts from only the few sentences that describe them. They will describe the fundamental workings of a particular governor in not much more space than what I've witten here.

On the other hand, they are much more in depth than Joe was just because the have the space. Lots of drawings and charts.

I basically got out of it what I wanted. When someone here talks about delivery valves, spill ports, racks, slider bolts, plate cams (not torque plates) and so forth, I now have a fighting chance of knowing what they are, where they are, and what they do.

Now then, which way do I turn that star wheel thingy... ??? ;)
