When you guys talk about 3000 govner kits does this mean you can rev higher . Is there any advantage to having one if you don't want run that hard. Just asking.

It depend on what you do and are trying to do with the truck, your 12 V will start de-fueling at 2500 and complete at 2750 in a standard I feel like it will take you higher in RPM to let you shift and stay in a good power band(just a opinion), in an auto you can keep the pump from de-fueling till later so the converter will work better especially if it's turned up,(as I understand) DTT recommends the 3k springs with there transmission up grades so when it shift it stays in the upper T/Q band and not in that low RPM transmission kill zone. That's what I got mine for but I still like it better even with the stock transmission and T/Q.

Personal Opinion....

One you have added some power, a 3K governor spring kit is the best $125 you can spend on your truck.

How hard is the kit to install. Too much for a do-it-yourselfer? Will it add any MPH. I have 4. 10's and about 90 is all it will do at WOT downhill. Any links describing the procedure? Have there been any problems after the kit was installed.

jodog,

Any advantage with having governor kit?

The biggest advantage I found was towing my trailer. I tow a 35' 5th wheel wieghing 16000 lbs. Prior to adding the governor kit, I would accelerate to 2900 rpm on a steep hill, shift gears and drop my rpms to about 1650-1700. With this weight, 4. 10 gears, 35" tires, and # 10 plate, I was always fighting to keep my clutch from slipping. I always had to feather on the throttle until about 2300 rpm. Now, with the governor kit I make my shift points while towing at about 3500 rpm. At these rpms I drop to around 2150-2200 rpm. At these dropped rpms my clutch still holds fine.

Rnpeder,

Will it add mph?

I have the same gear ratio as you (I didn't read your signature to see what tire size you have). But with 35" tires I would top out at 96 mph. I have driven at about 120 mph with the governor kit. This was in 5th gear at about 3600 rpm. I Have taken it over 4000 rpm (once) playing around when I power shifted from 3rd to 4th gear. I never had the balls to take it over 4000 rpm in 5th. I would guess this would be 135+ mph. 120 mph was all that I figured was safe on 35" BFG mud terrains.

The springs are really easy to install took me about 20 minutes.

You need a good pair of small needle nose to use on the retaining nut ( i used this because i had no special tool). You have to make sure that you install the nuts to the same depth on the stud so they both have the same tension.

Are they worth it? Well? Just drive someones with them. They are awsom!!

The onlu thing that i don't like is: from about 1100 to 2000 rpm it is really responsive, like when i had my high idle set at 1100, i would flip my switch and vroom up to 2000 rpm just like THAT!

Driving is beliving. From a dead stop, I can stand on it and from 1500 rpm to 3000 the tires are spinning and then the trans grabs 2nd and keeps them spinning until i get some speed which does not take long. Egts do climb faster.

They KICK @$$ though
