I got a GPS and tried to stick the dash disc under the lip of the dash just to the right of the sterring wheel. will not stay, used carpet tape with same effect. what can I use?

Thought I would show were I want it if I can find some way-glue/screws to hold the disc there.

The replacement discs from Garmin are expensive. I've had very good luck with double side 3M tape from Wal-Mart.

My son and I both have the Garmin GPS units. We both made a small metal plate that extends out in front of the dash and has a rounded edge on it. This plate is sized to fit the suction disk that Garmin provides and is held under the rubber mat in the opening under the radio. I install double stick carpet tape on the rear of this strip and place this under the rubber mat. This will hold the unit in place and will not fall out of the opening. I have had this installed like this for almost three years now. Another nice feature of this mounting is that the unit is lower then most user have them mounted and is less likely to be seen when walking by the truck. I do not have any pick's of this but if you would like to see my installed unit, PM me and I will send a pic to you.

My Garmin is an older unit and have used it for several years. I place it on the dash using the included "bean bag" mount. It never moves once I place it on the dash. When I'm not using it, I place it under the drink holder on the hump in the front center floor board where it isn't visible to anyone walking by the truck.

I beleive I am using the same thing, it's now called the Garmin Friction Mount.

Looks like a bean bag in an X shape with a very tacky footprint have never had it move around on the dash while driving. IMHO works great. And as said above can be put on the floor when not in use so it's not readily visible.

If you are determined to mount it in the exact position shown in your photos, which I think is a concave surface, you'll probably have to use a couple of tiny screws. 3M tape will hold indefinitely but applied to a curved surface it won't mate sufficiently to the base plate of the GPS to hold.

UMM I thought that spot was flat. I did get a larger dash disc from garmin if I know if there is anything in the dash screws would hold to.

I am like Bill Stockard & FOXY005 I use the Bean bag X dash mount as I use it in the truck & car. I can also use it in other peoples cars if we go with someone else. Never had a problem with it moving around.

Signal is good there. This spot worked until the temps got over 100 with truck setting at work all day.

They make different sizes and shapes of sticky back Velcro tape I have used it on my truck for holding stuff on the dash and steering wheel, and it can be cleaned up so you never know that it was there when you no longer need it.

The bean bag works well but if you want a more permanent fix for the permanent base:

I have used the 3M automotive tape but sometimes the summer heat build up in the dash area softened it to the point it wouldn't hold the unit. My fix was to cut and install a couple of small pieces of the tape near the edges of the mounting base and then use a bit of "GOOP" adhesive in the middle of the base.

Add the tape, apply the "GOOP", and let dry overnight in reasonable temps of course and your good to go. You can still remove the tape and "GOOP" with a little effort and the "GOOP" adhesive gives it that added measure of strength. Link below.
