I have a '95 4x4 auto. Should not have bought it but the price was right. Anyway is there a way to make the trans. grab a lower gear quicker when pulling or faster acceleration. When I'm pulling and trying to get on the freeway or just trying to maintain a 65 mph speed it will hang in third gear and bring the rpm to 2600 plus or minus. I know that in forth or fith it will do fine it is just getting the trans to let it get there. Even if I am running empty it will wrap third gear way out before letting into forth just the same as pulling, just the process takes a shorter time. I have been told use different torque converter- do not know though. Any advice?

You could try letting your TV cable in a little (less tension).

I had the same thing occuring on my truck until I adjusted things.

The attached picture didn't come out very well. I had to reduce the size to fit the posting guidelines.

First of all, my home town is right up the road from you Quanah! Steve is right about the TV, mine was too tight and it caused bad kick down problems, you adjust it at the pump pushing on the square button! With your foot to the floor there should be 1/8th to 3/16 travel left in the arm on the transmission till it bottoms out, if it's too tight it will cause your problem, to loose and you won't get the proper line pressure rise, I've played with it and adjusted it both ways with a guage hooked to the transmission and watched the pressures change.

well, I crawled under there and looked around. I think I found the TV cable. The one I saw is conected to the chrome piston type thing on the drivers side of the trans and goes to the back of the throtle cable area. When I pusher the piston all the way in there was a little bit less than a 1/4 of an inch before the set screw looking bolt bottomed out on the nut thats on the trans. Does this sound like I'm in the right area? Jim, I tried to figure out what to turn on the square plastic box but couldn't. Yeah I would say that Quanah is up the road a little, best I can remember it is up by the Red River close to the panhandle( think I remember seeing it on the way to Paduka few years ago)
