Grammar

Mr Howard... ... ... . I think the reason for grammar correction is to show the most intelligent college graduate did not learn proper grammer. That being said, if he did not learn the proper spelling and use of words through high school and college, how are we to believe of which he speaks is the area. He started the "blow hard" mouthing and he lost to the other members. It's good to know he has you to protect him. He didn't do so well for himself.

I tried to keep dis cival but dat didnt wook. O weel. I stills gotsda goes to wook

bye now

I have read many post from this site and several others I frequent often, Spelling is a huge problem on all sites. It becomes even more important when we post because it is the only basis we have to determine what type of person we are conversing with on the other end. In a face to face meeting, there are many clues we look for that help us judge what kind of a person we are meeting with, but on the web we are much more limited. Spelling is a huge factor we use to determine what type of an individual we are conversing with. Besides composition and product knowledge, spelling is the next most important thing we use to judge. What one writes about and how he or she writes it, tells volumes about themselves. It is usually easy to tell ones age, experience, geographic location, education and personality just by reading their post. Obviously there are times when we get the wrong impression, but after reading several post on several different subjects, the true personality of the poster seams to come Thur. Since spelling makes such an important impression on others, and since it is not a favorite subject of many including myself, the ideal of using a spell checking program is very wise. It takes very little time and there are many available as freeware.

I guess the point is we all make spelling errors once in a while so why jump all over a guy for it?

Unless your just looking for something to to make fun of?

I know I make spelling mistakes all the time because I type the same way I speak, with alot of slang. If that bothers some people I'm sorry. In addition to that who cares if he cant spell he still has a fast truck or is that why he is still getting beat up. :D I bet you John Force doesnt spell all that well either and he's faster than me , you dont hear me talking crap about him .

Maybe we should schedule a spelling bee at Muncie next year. Let's say, Lee's Inn parking Sat. morning, about 1:30 AM. Should be interesting!!!

Well said Y-Knot.

However spell checkers will not catch a misspelled word if it turns out to be a correctly spelled different word.

Case in point. The word "ideal" in your post, where you meant "idea"

I would be lost without my spell checker.

LOL. Obviously we all make mistakes, but come on!! It is difficult to even read Comp461 posts. They don't make any sense and are full of contradictions. I am in college right now, and if I turned in a paper that had his grammar, he would fail me before he even got finished with the paper. I am sorry, but I do not believe he is college grad. I could write better than that in tenth grade. I mean who the hell cannot spell "college"????

Some people enjoy the sport of bashing and belittling others, whether it because they perceived the object of their attacks to be different, or because, that person gives them cause to feel threaten in there comfort zone. While grammar and spelling programs work wonders for those of us who would rather be doing something more productive then spending time diagramming sentence structure, it’s simply not perfect. Therein lie’s the opportunity for some small-minded individuals to use this oversight to target people, which would make them look less grandiose. By maligning, these few folks, they believe they are gaining the high ground, but everyone sees them for what they really are the grade school bullies.

Does this type of thing really need to be in the "Competition" Forum?

There are several other forums that have "war rooms" available for bashing someone (BTW, by no means am I sticking up for anyone) , this just makes all of you look like a bunch of little bratty girls, (I appologise to the girls I just offended with that comment).

Grow up.

. . Rob, I agree. I started this and now I say let us stop,. Comp, just tune it down a little and everybody else will too. When you come on like a "wild fire", a lot of folks will try to put it out.

y-knot... ... ... Well said.

I'm 61, 2 years of college, self employed, very conservative in my politics and independent in my ways. SOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Bye now.

Now this is a funny thread. The author accuses someone of poor grammar and then misspells grammar. Then someone points out the error and makes his own grammatical error in the process by misspelling misspells. Hold on I better make sure I haven't spelled anything lol...

Sounds good to me tom, hard core republican here also. I really enjoy this little bantering, as they say any press is good press will be running Ennis tomorrow night, should have a 8second time slip Saturday morning

Luke... ... . I agree. It is funny and we need to "laaff" more often. That was part of my point. We do set our opinion of the members based what we see on the screen. The point was Comp came on too strong for most folks. And you know when a bad taste is put in your mouth you'll use whatever is avalable to remove it. Well, within reason.

Things are better now and I still think it's funny. The only thing that sticks in my craw is big brother "looking out for me". I don't need it. I don't care who it is.

And Comp... ... . The faster the better. ;) Truck only. Not the fingers on the keyboard.

Have a good day and keep a smile on your face.

As I've been saying for many years now, the three most important things we must all do every day are communicate, communicate and communicate. Clear communication is important in all things.

An example of poor communication might be: "Rob I need a set of lader bars for my truk quick when can you send em. " A better communication might be: "Rob, I need a set of traction bars for my '01 Ram 2500 5-speed. I'd like to have them installed for the pull next weekend. Can you get them to me in time?"

An example of a poor response from Rob might be: "What the eff you talkin about? I dunno what you wnat. " An example of a good response might be: "I have traction bars for serveral common trucks in stock. What year, make and model truck do you have? If I have them in stock, I can ship them tomorrow. If not, I can make them and overnight them to you so you get them Thursday morning. Of course, overnight shipping will cost extra. Let me know. " Or, as a humorous example, the bride's best friend is at the church in Salem, OH, waiting for the wedding party to show up. The wedding's actually happening in Salem, NH, but the state was left off the invitation, and the friend assumed it was in Ohio.

Clear communication is important in every field: religion, law, software, machining, business contracts, international trade and race vehicle manufacture to name a few. Can you imagine building a race truck using whole inches as the only measurements? Can you imagine the results if the law read "Drivers should stop at red lights. " How about Bill Kondalay's response after the billet shafts you asked for snapped and you complain to him, "They were supposed to hold 2500 lb-ft of torque," when you simply ordered "a set of billet shafts for my 48-RE transmission".

Basically, if you *don't* communicate well, you may well end up being, generally, ignored. Of course, if you *can't* (like you type as well as Gene does), people will make allowances if you at least try.

I guess it all comes down to the old adage: "If a job isn't worth doing, it isn't worth doing it well. "

In the spirit of humor, try this communication test that I have used when training new sales people on how to write a business letter, or a quote.

What does the following sentence really mean?

"No, I did not say I beat my dog. "

Now read the sentences aloud, with accent on the word that is in CAP's.

NO, I did not say I beat my dog. (I never said it)

No, I did not say I beat my dog. (Someone else said it)

NO, I did not say I beat my dog. (maybe I wrote it)

NO, I did not say I beat my dog. (someone else did it)

NO, I did not say I beat my dog. (kicked him)

NO, I did not say I beat my dog. (neighbor's dog)

NO, I did not say I beat my dog. (my cat)

What does all of this mean? When writing something important, read it back out loud, or have a couple people read it. Many times, you will get different understandings of simple sentences.

Hmmm... so this is in the Competition section. We are competing in writing skills? Time to get back to racing.
