Grease Gun Question

I want to grease the u-joints a '68 Dodge Dart. They have zerks. The tip on my grease gun is too big to get to the zerk. It won't fit between the driveshaft and the pinion yoke.



I researched it some and they say to use a needle tip. I thought a needle tip was just for injecting a sealed for life bearing?



Would Mcmaster/Carr have what I need?

Get the needle tip... it fits into the spring loaded ball opening in the zerk fitting. I think the needle tip works better that a regular zerk tip even if access isn't an issue.

Get a ball point! A needle won't work on a zerk. A ball point looks like the tip of a pen, and will seal on the tip of the zerk. I have a special end that is cupped, works good on u-joints. It looks like a extension tube for the gun, too bad I can't remember where I got it! I use the ball at home, works good too. You should be able to get one at NAPA, etc.

I agree! I've got one and have used it to grease zerks and it works well. I'd take a picture, but my camera's crapped out.

If it's not tough to get one end of the driveline loose you can usually get on such zirks with a standard tip by bending the U joint to it's extreme.

Get the ball point tip they work great and like was said earlier you can pick one up at napa.

Ballpoint is the way to go, but a needle does work. I used one on my old Ford that had a narrow window for the fitting. I switched to sealed U-Joints after the originals failed.

Yeah baby, you got it! You can screw it direct on the hose, etc. of the gun, or you can put in a grease fitting and pop it on and off the gun. I use mine the 2nd way, works good but sometimes takes 3 hands.

This is what you want to use to fit over and existing zerk fitting that you that you don't have enough room to fit a standard coupler on. This is only as wide as the flat end of the zerk, it does not snap over and encapsulate the fitting. This always worked great for me when I could't go straight onto a fitting. This fits snuggly on the end of the zerk and allows good grease injection with out a mess. Here is a link to the page.
