Looking for the best greaseable u-joins to drop in the rear drive shaft this weekend.



Anything at napa will do? What about the type of grease one might put in these joints.
 
I have the Napa U joints and haven't had any problems with them. "knock on wood" I use Royal Purple grease from www.longrider.com I marked a day on my calender and lube them once a month. That's probably to much, but those a pain in the ___ to replace, so would rather do that than have to do the whole thing over again.
 
Spicer joints

I just replaced the U-joints on my 04. 5 driveshaft last week with Spicer from FleetPride. Very good quality and much better than the non-greasable joints from Dodge. The FleetPride (Spicer) joints were 1/4 the cost of the dealer joints! Had FleetPride install and balance for less than just the two joints from the dealer!
 
NAPA stores around here carry Spicer U-joints. I get a bit of a discount, but walk-in price is still well under $30.
 
Yeah the only time I'd use anything other than Spicer is if Spicer didn't carry it (special U joint) or I had no choice but to use a crappy U joint to get me home.
 
greaseable u-joints

Have had greasable one's for years and grease them every oil change. Also use syn grease best to pump the factory grease out and completely fill it with syn . Had the rear joint some years ago go dry with me giving it 3 or 4 pumps of grease ( though I was doing a good job) now just make sure that grease comes out of the 4 seals in the u-joints. Haven't had a dry seal since. Should grease the slip yoke when it is down.
 
Dodge Ram 2500--a heavy duty truck built with standard duty parts. Keeps the cost down and the profits up and the customers will never know. And we customers love our trucks so much we don't mind paying 3 times for the same parts we could get elswhere. Dealers have the best mechanics available. They have that unique ability to repair in such a way that something else is sure to go wrong very soon. My 98 12v has cost me a lot of money, I don't like patch jobs so any part that went bad got replaced with heavy duty. (and not at a dealer) The torque converter went bad at 35K so I replaced it with one from Sun Coast and no problems. All I had ever towed was a motorcycle trailer. Since then cars on a flatbed. Dodge dealers have bent over backwards doing everything they possibly could to make sure I never returned. They have done a Damn fine job. They in their infinite wisdom know there is a sucker born every minuite and they take full advantage. My 98 will last my remaining lifetime (I just turned 78) and then some. For that I am greatful, I will not have to deal with a dealer. I have taken the liberty of venting a little but not just for myself.
