Is anyone familiar with this, heated tanks via heat exchanger allow you to run on pure used veggie oil. Only truck not recommended for their setup is a 98. 5 to 02 Dodge because of injector pump. Is there any way to get rid of a vp44 on these trucks so I could burn veggie oil? their website is greasel.com. Anyone mix veggie oil and diesel? I'm very interested in using alternate fuels or using used motor oil or veggie oil to supplement diesel fuel useage.

I looked at Greasel's system and another one (greasecar.com , I think), but didn't like the fact of the extra space you give up. Plus, you have to start with diesel, switch to oil, then back again before you shut off your engine. It was running about $700 dollars plus cost of installation.

If we didn't live in the city, I would make biodiesel. The equipment is not that expensive and you don't have to modify your truck.

There's a number of threads on the TDR where guys talk about filtering waste oil (vegetable or motor) and then mixing a percentage of the filtered oil with their diesel. Some just let their old motor oil sit, settle, and use it. If you're using a good oil filter, like a Stratopore (sp?0 that might be OK, but I think I would filter anything I before dumping into the tank.

This is the way I'm leaning right now. Start doing my own oil changes (save money there), filter it, store it in jugs, and put some in with each fillup. You can adjust the amount of oil added based on current local temps. Also, you could carry jugs of the filtered, used oil on trips, if you wanted. Just add a jug or two when you stop to refuel.

Hope this helps,

Jim

check out biodiesel.com.

there are ways to modify veggie oil to be able to run it in the truck successfully. It involves some basic chemistry, but there are lots of folks doing it in their ctd's. I am also interested in this. There is lots of info on the web. Straight veggie is not the way to go. You have to remove the glycerine to make it work properly.

I have thought about, many of times, of taking my used oil (approx 30 gals a month) and putting it in a barrel, let it gravity flow through 2 filters into a clean barrel, then mix with my diesel fuel, but what would be the ratio ?

I run alot of heavy equipment, and farm tractors, plus i can get alllllll of the free changed oil at the local tire store i want. hmmmmmmmm we maybe on to something here fellas !
