I take a look at all these kinds of shows from the Ice road truckers/Heavy duty loggers in Maine /Mountain Men and all the rest just to see if I want to continue to TVO them to watch later. Great lake warriors are some pretty tough guys. I have been by the great lakes crossing form Canada to MI and one time from Watertown NY to Canada across the St Lawrence Sea Way. But those are some pretty nasty looking waters. The one guy was getting PELTED IN THE FACE!!! with ICE and didn't even say ouch!!!!!!!!!! for Christ Sake, more than likely ate 16 penny nails and I TRIED TO BY-PASS THE CUSSING FILTER thumb tacks. Im almost afraid to NOT WATCH they mite show up at my door looking for me :-laf

Big,

They didn't name them Great for no reason.

I grew up near Cleveland back in the steel mill days, and those mill guys had to be tough to be a part of that life. We saw freighters on Lake Erie all the time, many delivering to the Hewlett ore unloaders. Monsterous ore gulping human operated unloaders. This is near the same area where the Cuyahoga River caught fire from industrial pollution. Now a name on a favorite micro brew, Burning River Pale Ale. Lets not forget the ships that lie on the bottom of those famous Lakes possibly the most famous the Edmund Fitzgerald, name ring a bell? Try its namesake Edmund Fitzgerald Porter. I have stood on the bank overlooking Lake Erie in the winter, ice chocked and the wind coming from the WNW blowing across maybe 70 miles of ice, it cut clean thru you and came out the backside.

Part of the great industrial might that helped made that region the industrial powerhouse that it was. Now the area where the river caught fire has seen massive cleanup and renovation and the lakefront area is a tourist destination, The William Mather frieghter, the US Cod WWII Submarine, The Goodtime tour vessels, Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and museums of museum quality. And Big they serve a real Ruben sandwich correctly done.

Some days I miss the Great Lake Erie and Cleveland.

Sounds like a pretty historical part of the country. Ive been out fishing in the ocean and prayed for a piece of land that would not move for a minute but to no avail. The sea is pretty rough when your on a 80ft fishing boats and others around yours are about the same size and they disappear behind the swells. But the wind and ICE that these got hit with was pretty bad. I can deal with the cold but the ice and wind I pull up my collar on my coat drop the brim of my hat and just keep putting heal to Daisy she knows the way home. These guys faces looked like a chunk of WELL WEATHERD LEATHER.
