First trip this year

Mounting genset

Just rerturned from a trip to Drummond Island, MI attending the Jeep Jamboree up there. Beautiful country and had a great time.

Usually, when I have the Jeep loaded on trailer I am headed out on the "I" system of roads traveling at 70 mph and exposed to winds.

Well, this trip was different. Most was traveling at 60 mph through heavily forested area where wind is not a factor. Averaged 16. 5 on the trip. My truck has never produced that before with this same load. So, slower speeds definitely help as the truck effortlessly pulls the load.

Wind resistance is HUGE factor. I was pulling a BP 9000# trailer with my 01 6 speed dually with a truck camper on it. Gross Weight about 19,000 I usually got about 10. 5 MPG running at 70mph. I towed my tandem dual GN equipment trailer to California to pick up 2 farm tractors and a IH diesel engine. . Gross weight at 27,800 and slowed to Ca's speed for trucks (about 62mph) and got 15mpg on the loaded portion of that trip. Not having the camper on was the biggest difference. Speed was nearly as big.

Averaged 13. 4 over 1700 mile trip pulling 27 ft camper trailer. Ran into heavy head winds in Kansas (50mph that would almost stop you down hill... 11. 7 during that hell. Pulled hard over the Rockies (first time for this horse and I was very pleased). GVW was around 17, 800 so I am pretty happy with this. Was hoping for more but friends with similar rigs told me that I did pretty well indeed.
