transmission oil question

I don't know what I was thinking, I pulled my stock turbo off my 2004 305 HP engine and put in on ebay for $650. The darn thing sold, so now I have to upgrade :-laf

Any suggestions?

Going to be running a TST CR R49, possibly a smarty, otherwise mostly stock engine. Free flowing air filter and exhaust, and a transmission with a few upgrades (billet input shaft, billet flexplate) Goerends T/C, ATS valvebody, etc.

It's going in my Excursion which is a heavy pig and has 3. 73 gears. This is going to be our family vehicle so I can't go nuts with it. Must spool quick and cool better than the stock turbo.

Was thinking of the SPS62 but after doing some searching and reading, someone claimed the lag was pretty bad? I'm sure the smarty would help in the spooling department:D

Thoughts?

Excursion as in PSD motor, or did you put a Cummins into your X????

The SPS62 doesnt lag, a 66 lags. :D I think the SPS62 would be a great choice for your application.

BTW: Good Idea on the swap!

Everything I have read to date said the spool was as good or just slightly less than stock with much better flow??

A Smarty, I think, would cure that spool problem. :)

Both the SPS62 and Silver62 are (considerably?) slower to spool than my stock turbo was. Around 1400-1450 rpm before they light, thats with a built transmission and Smarty.

I still am very pleased with my choice, just a small adjustment on driving habits. Egt's a little higher when cruising empty, but they drop right down when it starts to pull and you create some boost.

At what rpm did the stocker light? Wow, 1400 seems really soon. I'm used to driving a 2nd gen, never driven a 3rd gen before. I never really got used to the lag on my truck with a single HX40, now with the twins, lag is no longer a problem :D

My 66 lites at about 1800 and is by no means laggy with the right amount of fuel. Even with the fuel turned down its easily driveable. the 6 spd helps though. A sps62 would be at its limits with your fueling and weight I would think but still would get the job done.

Love my SPS 62/14, even with me hauling heavy 90% of the time. Guess I'd better put my stocker up on EBay!! :-laf

As far as fueling goes, I am guessing that we would only be running the smarty with the TST on a low setting (just using it for gauges) for 90% of the driving. Only on the weekends when I'm driving or during the week when my wife wants to smoke out the other soccer moms would the TST would get turned up slightly :-laf

I just hope that once it is done, she will give me my truck back

I was kinda thinking of a '62 for my '98 but I would've thought they'd spool sooner than that. My DD Jammer lights right at 1300 on my '96, and it's not fueled that much. Maybe a 12v can spin 'em quicker?

I got the BD Super B Special and I wish I bought it alot sooner, the truck revs alot smoother now with alot more useable power. I would highly recommend this turbo

With my super tight transmission and Smarty, my stock turbo spooled up right off idle, no lag! It was wickedly squirrely, would flat roast my Toyos, But, I knew it would not last.

With both the SPS62 and the Silver62, nail it, one thousand one, one thousand two, HANG ON!!!

To get the responsiveness out of the 62's, off the line, you have to hold your foot on the brake until 12# boost. This is my truck, there are alot of variables on seperate trucks.

I am one of the people who commented that the SPS62 lags a lot more than stock. Most people said that it was because I still had the stock muffler and intake. Well, I've changed those, and now I have a truck that lags (although slightly better than with stock intake and exhaust) and is also very loud (MBRP muffler). #@$%!

My girlfriend was over when I was replacing the muffler and asked why I was replacing a muffler on a new truck. I told her for performance reasons. Afterward while we were talking loudly on the freeway she asked, "NOW WHAT WAS THE REASON FOR CHANGING THE MUFFLER?!?!"

I've wanted to get a Goerend TC and VB (and other parts) so I can fully use the power the turbo and Juice have to offer, but at this point I'm reluctant to spend another $3k, thinking that I may just screw up the truck even more. I know, Goerend's stuff as well as the other leading companies all make good stuff, but "good stuff" doesn't always relate to the driveability of a vehicle... so it seems. I think people really like what they've done because they've spent a lot of money and the horsepower is better (which is fun :-laf ). But in reality, the driveability sux. I wish I left my truck stock. :{

Your right I would have to say Goerend doesn't make good stuff. He makes great stuff!! I think you will be very happy with a transmission upgrade.

When and if you take some of the slipping out of your transmission, the new turbo will spool quicker. The six speed guys have alot better luck with quick spool just for that reason.
