Pro;

the truck will burn rubber

Con:

(Potential) EGT problem, thin wallet, and bald rear tires :-laf

Dakota,

The pros of a Greenleaf Pump are the increased RWHP, more torque and the ability to contract to the County for mosquito extermination in the summer. :D

The cons of the pump is that you have to keep Greenleaf supplied with food and snacks throughout the process. He also got me to fill his refigerator in the shop before I left. Oh yeah, he saves the major shop cleaning and degreasing the pit for his "customers. " ;)

Almost forgot. Another Pro is that you might get to meet Philip, BGilbert or CGauthier (if the spring thaw comes soon enough. ) :D

Pump Thoughts.....

... ... . or shall I say Pump Warning.

A full out modified pump, coupled to a strong engine, coupled to a strong TC/transmission is a recipe for disaster.

I have taken my truck out of it's winter hibernation and given it a full test drive/work out with the latest mods.

I fear my life is in jeprody and do not recommend/endorse the use of a full-out modified truck.

Further more, I had the opportunity to grab a Dodge/Hemi fan here at the school this evening and take him along for a run. His reply was that he didn't know a diesel engine could do the things he just witnessed.

Still further more, I'd like to publicly announce that I am aquiring a non-innercooled truck, which shall remain ... ... ... ... ... ..... ABSOLUTELY STOCK!!

I'd like to live long enough to fulfill my dream of retirement.

Amen to that GL

Yes I agree GL. These old non I/C rigs are best set up from the factory. I like having the gauges but I have turned my pump back to stock minus the GSK spring. It'll still pull anything

Oh well... . mine runs sooooo much better since I have been "altering" the factory set up :-laf :-laf

Seems to be the general thinking... . my son bought a 94 after going for a ride in mine... :-laf

I installed the governor screw and threaded it out a good bit towards the throttle lever. I'll fine tune the setting later to say 2800-3000 rpm's . However that hasn't stopped me from squeeling the tires and blowing clouds of night-ness in the face of other motorists. I turned my full fuel screw OUT 1/2 turn. It's out so far now that I could have left the lock collar on.

This thing be rock'n

It's my conclusion that if your pump is quite fresh, it will be very responsive to modifications.

With the 21 cm housing reinstalled it takes a moment to build the boost when spinning the tires on dry concrete. The engine will pull down for a second (just after nailing the throttle) as the tires grip then the engine picks up speed and the rear tires lite-off/the turbo gos into supersonic mode.

I took a picture of the burn out here at the bus garage concrete apron. I'll post it later. One can easily see where the tires are getting a bit of traction and "trying" to spin, then the all-out rubber burning debris left behind where the turbo cought up. I had to shut her down as I wasn't watching where the tach was heading to. Rather looking to see what I may run into :)

Bill, I have yet to see fuel pressure drop below 11lbs.

I ought to be able to get you (Greenleaf) a fairly fresh pump for you to fiddle with about the last week of May, or is that too late in the "season"? (Screwel year). I am going to send mine to the pump man here in Jackson after next paycheck. It is sucking more fuel than ever- got <16mpg getting my new bed yesterday. Pump guy told me he can give me what I had before, but "cant be responsible to what may happen to the engine. " I bit awfully hard on my tongue to not crack a smile.

GL- what's this about turning the governor back to 3K? mine will run 32-3300 now, in each gear thru 4th gear; 3100 in 5th (LP output getting too low? No FP gauge, cant tell- 10hp penalty).

Daniel

Well I guess I had better warn the local Boss Hogg and Roscoe that GL and the other various assorted hillbilles will be polluting the air in Miami County this fall. Boy I can't wait.

I have proven to my self that things can get scary. I'd like to keep this truck on the road as opposed to crash and burn. Therer are enough idiots too look out for on the highway without me being one of them. I sorta hope that by limiting fuel pedal travel, I can keep myself in check.

It's set to 3000 rpm's now and it's still to much for daily driving. Performing reckless manuvers here in the school's lot is one thing. Out on the highway when other motorists are involved is another.

I'm not concerned about the smokey burn-outs. It's that high speed thing that scares me.

Boy that sounds all too familar. My nerves were shot after pump install and working on it all day then driving home. I don't think I got over 55mph til the interstate, then kept it at 65mph. It takes awhile to relearn how to drive your truck after something like this.

That's an understatement Bill.

I simply want to race everything that looks challenging :)

The governor spring makes the throttle very responsive and when combined with "other things" the engine simply screams out "LET ME RUN" !
