I have a late 91 W250 4X4 LE reg cab. It is a end of year model so it is the same as a 92 model intercooler etc. I have 32,650 original miles on it and bought it new. It has always been serviced at the dealer and has oil and filter changes every 3500 miles. It is in excellent condition. I have a couple questions. Upon startup, I was getting grey smoke, not a lot, but more than I thought I should. When the engine was shifted into neutral (Auto Trans) it sounded like it was missing when given the throttle.
I replaced the air filter with a K&N believing all the K&N hype and saw no improvement. I then drilled three 2 1/2" dia. holes in the air filter box hoping to improve air flow, still no improvement. I am getting 19 mpg highway, 15-16 mpg in town and have a top speed of approx. 80-85 mph. When the engine misses on startup in neutral and is shifted into gear the miss seems to go away. Is all of this normal or do I have a problem. The valves have never been adjusted. Also, has anyone tried the velvet ride spring shackles and are they worth installing? I replaced my tires and wheels with A/R 16X8 Nitros and Bridgestone Desert Deulers, also installed Rancho R/S 9000 shocks. The ride is still harsh. Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks

I was going to copy some info out of my service manual for my 92 and try and email it to you, but today was hectic and I'll try my best to do it tomorrow, but don't hold you breath, tomorrow doesn't look good.

There is a solenoid on top of the engine on the drivers side that will affect the smoke problem when cold and I believe the book calls it white smoke, but hell I probably couldn't tell white from grey anyway. According to my records, it is called an air temperature sensor or switch and the Dodge part number in 1994 when it was replaced by Dodge was KSB4713521, but this doesn't mean it still is the same number. It is located, if I remember correctly, beings my truck isn't here, is along side the back couple of valve covers, there are two or three in a row at that location.

If I can get it emailed to you, I will try and mark it.

Email me at rodhow@c-zone.net, I seem to be having a problem with emailing you from this site. I will be leaving here a little later for Sacramento, I don't know when I will be back.
I have this info I talked about above.

Rodney:

All the info you e-mailed me came through just fine. This is great, all I need now is to get busy and trouble shoot. Thanks a lot!
