started the 'ol girl up today ('08 6. 7L 43k) & had to wait for grid heater... . It's 70 flippin degrees out - what's up with that???? my only theory is egr buildup or is there some sensor that needs cleaned AGAIN? Thanks.

I have never waited to start any one of my Dodge Cummins trucks. 05, 08, 2010! One morning when it was 7* out and the truck sat outside all night ( the 08, normally in a garage over night ), I hopped in and with out thinking, cranked it over and it fired right off. It sounded a little rough, but kept running and I hooked up the 5ver, and off we went.

you do not even need the grid heater. most of us delete them. the only time the heater actually cycles is when it is below 50* the wait to start light will always come on to get you use to wait to start.

Its just built into the PCM to turn on the lite. Above 53* the grids don't light up.

You should notice that the amp needle doesn't fluctuate, like when its has the grids lit up .

The WTS comes on to test the bulb, but will go out quickly if the grids aren't "needed". If the intake manifold temp, as the ECM see's it, is below 66*F then the grids will cycle.

The 53* temp must be an older model temp, as 66* has been the temp used since 03.

Ha it was 40 this morning, chilly for May, so it came on for sure. Thank you Canada for the high pressure and clear skies... . !
