For some reason I believe my grid heaters are cycling when they shouldn't be.

Outside temps in the 40's, engine operating temps normal. Drove 50 miles stopped to eat, restart truck and drive off reaching 55mph. The ammeter shows drops below 14 and my headlights dim like they would when the grid heaters are functioning after a cold start. After a few miles the dimming stops and the ammeter reaches ~14 just like it's supposed to. This has been a random event... . doesn't happen all the time.

Did a search here. Grid heaters will come on when temps below 59*, but should shut off when rolling speed goes above 17 mph.

Suggestions??

grid heater

I performed the grid disconnect procedure from a post a few years ago with the oil pressure sending unit acting as the ground for both relays. The grids function with the key in the on position but turn off once the engine starts and builds oil pressure. Works fantastic without any problems. Outside Temps are between 15-35 currently.

I too would be interested to know if anyone else has had the problem that 24V-DSL experienced. Could it be a bad relay? What else drives the grid heater, I mean, is the ECM that tells it to come on or what?

It seems like mine would come on at mph above 17. Remember its emissions too. Not just to get it running. But to get it running reasonably clean.

Mine does the same thing in the winter. I don't notice it at all in the summer even when the nights are cooler than 59 degrees. I can shut it off for as little as ten minutes after driving it fully warmed up and then restart it and the grid heaters cycle for a few minutes.
