Saw a new 2001 Dodge Cummins 2500 4x4 that had a Mopar Brushed alum. finish grill guard. It looked neat because the verticle supports were outside the fog lights and was arched to follow contour of grill lines(Wide look). But went I put a little weight on it and pulled gently it wiggled in&out even though it was mounted to frame(loose feel), Looked nice, however. Anyone out there have a factory mopar guard that feels solid mounted? How much do they cost?

I never liked any add on brush guard. In the event of an impact, they can do too much damage to the intercooler/AC condenser. For a really beefy front bumper/guard, the Kangaroo Bar is the most beefy item I've ever seen. It's a polished alloy bumper and grille guard in one and it's made in Australia for driving in the Outback. Makes the truck look like it's in one of those Mad Max movies.

I looked at the MOPAR grill guards when I bought my truck last month. I noticed the same wimpy feel to it. I wanted (and may still go with) the Ranch Hand front end replacement, but for now I have a Smitty Built grill guard. It cost less and is built better then the MOPAR units. Also looks pretty good if I do say so myself.

Have not seen the MOPAR grille guard yet. I am looking at the new bumper with grille guard from Roadarmor. It is beffy looking and has a nice contoured bumper. Also takes a winch. Has anyone tried Roadarmor products?

When I bought my truck in '95 I got the only grill guard offered by Dodge that was steel. It's really solid feeling. Hopefully, if I hit a deer it will limit the damage enuff so I can drive it. One guy I talked to had $5000 damage done to his truck when he hit a mule deer because it smashed the transmission cooler, intercooler, air conditioning condensor, and radiator in addition to the body damage. It had no grill guard of any kind. Naturally, when I did manage to hit one, it completely missed the grill guard. Just damaged the bumper and kicked out the headlight.

The factory bar looked wimpy and was pricey to boot. I installed a beefy brush/grill guard made by Brown Welding, from New Braunfels, TX. They make a real beefy front bumper/grill guard but probably weighs a few hundred poounds.

WireDawg,
I've got the same brushguard on mine and I jsut added the rear bumper. Heavy duty stuff. I do like the way it mount as compared to the Ranchhand stuff. Check out my truck site to see pictures of mine.

I might be the last person to have just learned this, but I was told that if you 'collide' with a deer, you must tell the insurance people that the deer hit YOU.

If you say YOU hit the deer, they won't pay.

Is this true? Anybody have experience with this?

My insurance company wanted to know if the deer was alive or dead when I hit it. I told them I thought it was alive since it was running as hard as it could right across in front of me when I hit it. From that I guess that if it was dead it's a no pay situation, but if it's alive it's ok.

B59, where did you get the Kangaroo guard. Sounds interesting and would like to see one. You can e-mail if you want.
Thanks, Ron

gitchesum:

Nice truck. I don't have a digital camera (yet)to show mine off. What's really nice is the grill/brush guard cost me $295 and the rear bumper cost $50 after they put a dimple in the my new stock bumper while it was in the shop. Really stout.
