Help! While coming home at 70 mph an intermittent grinding, screaming noise started and stopped. Very loud and expensive sounding. Got off the highway and took the back roads home at 40-50 mph and no noise. "01 2500 stock 140K miles. Any ideas? thanks

It's just a big U-joint, not a CV joint. You can check it some with a long screw driver and pry it aroung a bit. If you put the axle on stands it will feel rougher if you turn the wheel by hand when the steering is hard over than it does when it is straight ahead. Could be a wheel bearing too, but you need to check the U-joint if it's a 4X4.
