I get a grinding/whirring noise when stopping just before coming to a full stop. Sounds like hub bearing failures I have had on other FWD stuff - but the noise was constant and this isn't.

Pads are ok. Brakes do sequel a lot and I am figuring it is due to cheap pads the PO may have used.

Any pointers on testing the hub bearings? Is this noise an early warning? I assume they are the factory hubs with 100K on them.

Other things I should be looking at?
 
Get it in the air and checking for slop by rocking the tire from the top and bottom and spinning the tire and listening for grinding. That about as basic as trouble shooting can get. Usually with a bad front bearing you'll be able to really hear it humming when you turn when rolling down the road.. If that doesn't do it you may want to invest in an automotive stethoscope and use it to really rule out the wheel bearing noise. The squeaky breaks sound like you may need to put some brake caliper lube on the back of the pads. That would be where I start, but it's just an idea..
 
Have you looked at every brake pad inner and outter? Maybe a stuck or binding caliper and only 1 pad is worn down or rustjacked and the friction material came loose?
 
Thanks for the advice as I have had them go bad without any slop on other stuff or maybe caught them earlier before total failure.

Passenger side bearing is done as I can put a finger on the rim and feel the wheel move in relation to the brake caliper assembly with it in the air 2" and a pry bar under the tire.
