it looks like grizzly lockers are now in stock. the price seems high 800$. the aam axle is the same as the gm one ton?any other options out there. kp

Eaton Truetrac and ARB Air Locker

The Truetrac is a helical gear unit much like the one you can get in our trucks as OE. The Air Locker is an open diff which locks like a spool when engaged via a pneumatic system activated by an electric switch installed in the cab. The Grizzly operates much like a Detroit Locker.

As far as the differential goes the GM and Dodge 11. 5" AAM axles are the same.

Last time I checked "Tru-Trac" didn't make a diff. for our front units. Is that not the case now?

I assume KParsons is referring to the rear 11. 5" as Yukon does not make a Grizzly locker for the front that I know of.

For the front axle, the 9. 25" AAM (which uses the same diff as the GM IFS 9. 25"), there is the Eaton Truetrac, Eaton E-Locker, and ARB Air Locker.

Thanks for the information. I went to JawsGear.com and saw the listing and application and plan to call them in the morning to confirm the application and if it holds I will buy one. There is a giant difference between a true 4x4 and a three wheel which is what I have now. Thanks again. Larry

I put the electric locker in my front axle (same unit used as factory in the Power Wagon) and have had good luck with it. I use it for sledpulling and it's holding up fine now with 18 hooks on it this season. Surprisingly affordable too at about $650.

I just got off the phone with "Detroit-Eaton" and this is what I was told. The e-locker can be made to fit the application it was not designed for that housing and was not engineered to handle the torque and power of the Cummins. Further I was told there is not now and no plans are afoot for a True-Trac unit for our front axle.

I don't want an e Locker or an air locker su I guess I'm still sol.

pockit locker

i was looking for the small locker that goes in place of the spider gear set up. this type is not made for this axle by anyone. several companies make the full size locker. this means the ring gear must come off,and be set up again. i have used the pocket locker on several trucks in the past and they work very well. but 800 to 900 $ and take the ring gear off . is a deal breaker for me. k

There are numerous vendors who advertise a 9. 25" AAM Eaton E-Locker to suit Dodge and GM front axles, however that does not mean it is approved by the manufacturer. I do wonder though, if they did not design it for the 9. 25" AAM what axle is it designed for? The only other diff I'm aware of that can be set up in a 9. 25" AAM housing is a semi float Corporate 14 bolt diff, and yes that is a bad idea in terms of strength.

Here is a link to an Eaton product release showing a Truetrac application for both the 9. 25" and 11. 5" AAM Axles

I have also heard from people who claimed to have installed them.

Installing a "lunchbox" style locker w/o removing the carrier and/or ring gear completely depends on the application or gear ratio. The ring gear will typically get thicker as you go numerically higher and as a result can block access to the cross shaft, in some applications the ring gear must come off regardless. $800+ is a hard pill to swallow, but swapping over your ring gear and resetting backlash is no big deal, especially with the 11. 5" using adjuster nuts instead of shims. The worst part about installing one is trying to handle ~80 pounds of differential

Just called the Eaton guys again and guess what. Yesterday they thought I was asking about the e-locker. Once that was streightened out they said that indeed the True-Trac is now available for the 9. 25" front AAM axle in our trucks under part number 914-A643 and that I could buy it through "West Coast Differential" at 800-510-0950. Glad to get all that stuff streightened out.
