Montana 5er Recall - Keystone RV

Torsion suspension

Have not had the problem but the way I understand it is IF you appear to be overweitht they will scale you! Traveled into BC this spring somewhat overweight and NO stopping by any one. Saw a couple of places where there were lots of police. (speed check station). Had some Internet conversations last year and there was some checking in the mountain areas.

I heard this too when I was out in B. C. last month. Guy I spoke to (member of TDR also) told me he traded his 2500 for 3500 so that he could use a camper without running afoul of the law. He said that police in B. C. will pull you over if you appear overweight.

I asked my brother-in-law about this (retired RCMP) and he had never heard of anyone being pulled over for this infraction. He said the police are hot on commercials particularly those from the U. S.

There is however a website put out by the Central Island Highway Patrol (RCMP from Vancouver Island entitled) "All About Weight". Well worth reading. . www.island.net/~cihp/weight.html

There has been a rash of crack downs but it has been aimed more at the guys with welding rigs slid in the back of the 2500's, overloaded mechanic trucks and those huge Sled Racks on the back of 1/2 tons. Also they are trying to get all the 1/2 tons with huge 5v'ers off the hills as they don't have the power or the braking ability.

I doubt they would want to give the gears to an honest tourist. Really IMHO the company you buy the trailer/camper from should not give it to you if you show up with an under-rated vehicle. Its all about safety on their (BC) narrow mountain roads.
