I was talking with forrest a while back, and he mentioned a plate he called a #108. It is a 0 top with a ramp on the bottom. I ground this, and it has a little more power than my #11, but not much. I am actually seeing less boost than with the #11. I have the 0 part ground flat with the leading edge of the top of the plate, and I have the plate full foward. It is a little more power because my #11 foward wouldnt slip the clutch and this one will, but why am I seeing less boost? The elbow has stayed the same between plates.

I've found that for whatever reason, I often have to re-adjust my boost elbow whenever the AFC housing comes off...

when I pulled my AFC spring, my boost jumped from 39psi to 45psi as if I'd blocked off the wastegate  I re-adjusted it...

when I put the AFC spring back in, it did the same thing...

when I ground my #6 into a #0, same thing...

Thats odd.

Ive had my cover off lots of times, and it has always been ok. The think I find weird, is my boost fitting is tight. I mean, i cannot tighten the allen setscrew anymore.

Is it possible to have a boost leak at the afc cover? maybe I didnt get the cover tight??? It isnt leaking oil from the cover.

so basicly, you've got it completely blocked off? that is odd that you'd lose boost...

is the deepest part on your 108 deeper than the deepest part on the 11?

Forrest

If the elbow allows the WG to be blocked, then yes, it should be blocked. Yeah, the deepest part of the 108 is substantially deeper than the 11. The 11 is probably . 020 or . 030 from being flush with the top of the plate, and my 108 is actually proabably a little deeper than the top of the plate towards the top. in the middle, it is probably not quite a 0, but definitley deeper than the 11. I used a set of calipers to determine how to grind it how I thought would work best. The bottom part of the nose is also quite a bit less than the start of the 11. Every part of the 108 is deeper than the corresponding part of the #11.

It does smoke like crazy, and it runs good, it just doesnt make as much boost. It spools faster, and will make higher boost numbers sooner, but it doesnt make as much total. The first run or two, the clutch didnt slip, even in fifth, and I thought that was strange. but still, the highest boost I can get is about 34psi (if the clutch holds).

yeah, but the clutch held good a few times, so I think the load was the same. I dont know if I have too much rack travel or not. I am going over to Joe Donnelly's today to see what he thinks.

thanks for all the help you gave me1

well, I'd call it help. you know why? because I re-addjusted my boost elbow when I got home, and it DID make a diff. :)

thanks,

Jeff
