Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) grounding a sending unit

I have lost my temp gauge and oil pressure on the dash have tested the dash and all the gauges work fine during the test function. I have read here try grounding/testing the sending unit to see if it's working how do you do this? Thanks mark. UPDATE I got a manual and read on testing the ECT sender and there is no power to it with the key on! sender shows a 117 ohms book says to have ECM checked. My ? can the ECM be reflashed or do I need to replace it

Dodge can reflash the ECM in the truck, Cummins can reflash it in or out of the truck (at least the one by me can).
