My OEM batteries finally died at 144K. I ended up replacing them with Group 34/78 dual terminal EverStarts from Wal-Mart; Part # Maxx-1N, 1000 CA, 875 CCA.
However, I noticed in the Wal-Mart battery book that all 2nd generation Rams get Group 27 OEM batteries, except the 2002's. The 2002's, as well as the 3rd generation Rams, get Group 65 OEM batteries. I wondered why Dodge changed the spec for 2002.
Anyway, I thought about swapping my battery trays with 2002 trays and installing group 65's, assuming the 2002's use a base mounted hold-down block instead of the top mounted hold-downs. Has anyone done this? I'm just wondering what all is involved.
