First trip on Edge Comp

I know that many members already have air horns installed, but I thought I'd throw this out for the newer members.

I finally completed the Grover install yesterday and can tell ya, they are DEEP  . I don't have a compressor yet, so they are aired from two aux. tanks with a combined capacity of 22 gallons. I have the air tanks in the tool box, with the hopes of removing one and adding a Blojax compressor in the future. For right now, I've been filling the tanks up to 135 psi's which is good for a ton of blasts. The kids were literally lined up at the bus stop yesterday, waiting to take a try at the pilot's seat  . I wired the solenoid valve to the hot wire of the existing horns (they are now bye bye, waiting to be installed on the girls Barbie Jeeps) which worked out real well. If I press the panic button on the remote, I now get a steady interval of deep blasts.

I purchased the horns from Ricksons, good source and great folks to deal with. The Grovers I bought are 24 1/4" and 21 1/4" with 6" bells. They will fit in a stealth mount, in front of the track bar, though it's tight. You can see pics. of the install here https://www.turbodieselregister.com/user_gallery/displayalbum.php?&userid=4688&albumid=159 . I used the supplied 1/4" line from the outlet of the solenoid valve to the horns. The supply line to the inlet of the solenoid is 1/4" HD line with 1/4" male NPT fittings. I used this as I wanted to be able to use a quick disconnect coupler at the tanks and at the solenoid inlet. The feed line runs through the bottom of the toolbox and through the bed, then through the frame, exiting at the front passengers side. I encased the solenoid valve in a piece of 3" schedule 40 PVC with 2 end caps ( drilled a small weep hole for air circulation into the PVC at the advice of D. Dressler). I wanted to keep the run from the solenoid to the horns short, so solenoid is hose clamped to a short piece of existing angle steel, in front of the pass. side tire.

I was going to use the push lock fittings for the 1/4" hose to the horns, but I had one bad push lock on the 'T' that was supplied by Ricksons, so I scraped them all and built my own 'T' from brass and used brass compression fittings for all of the horn connections, forward from the solenoid valve.

If you are riding the fence on air horns, I can tell you that they are well worth the time/expense. They will put a :D on your face. I can't wait for the next kid to give me the international ' blow your horns' hand signal.

Benn thinking

about getting air horns. I might mount them on top of my 8' box cap Don't know if it would look stupid or not. I also noticed a boat horn listed in cabelo's cat. very high decilbles and small money. Still thinking????? Have fun LOL

Bully horns

Well I had $35. 00 worth of coupons and 2 -10% discounts going for me so took a trip down to Henderson NV campers world and got the Bully air blasters for $178. 00 out the door including sales tax. Not to bad a deal. I think they will look OK on the cap roof they are not to big just about right. So if you see an old fool rideing around with horns on his cap roof you'll know it's me.
