this really gets my goat!!!!! just got another recall notice for the outa park alarm. refused to have it done so i keep getting notices. What really gets me is they are stating that this situation only occurs due to operator error. BULL S****t it only occurs due to crappy design and or manufacturing. I'm gonna file a complaint with the NHTS {for all the good it will do}. Some one must have been bought off on this supposed fix that isn't!!!!!!!!

Thank you feel beter already just venting a little!!!!

Don't know 'bout y'all, but I got more important things to worry about than a pointless recall notice, like arguing about Amsoil or something. :D

Just feel lucky that you have the option NOT to have it on your truck! Mine came with it. :(

It sucks. I hate it. I would rather have the truck roll down a hill.

Put a scotch-lock across the two wires going into the seatbelt buckle (only drivers’ side) and never worry about the horn going off while in reverse with the door open. If you are like me you put your seatbelt on without thinking and don’t need the bell reminding you to buckle up for daily driving. If you don’t want to buckle for some reason you don’t get nagged about it with the scotch-lock in place. Your passengers still have to comply or get nagged by the buzzer. As you know for the horn to start beeping you need to have the driver door open, the seatbelt unbuckled, the gear selector in reverse and your foot off the break. With the seatbelt always bucked (scotch-lock) you never meet all the criteria.

Hey, I have an idea. Back up with the door closed. Keeps all the bells and whistles from going off. :-laf

I was taught as a young boy to keep the door closed as you back up so you do not rip it off of the rig. I learned to just roll the window down and stick my head out of the hole and look backwards if I needed that much of a view behind.

Hey thanks for your kind words of wisdom. I see you have a 06 and you have no choice in the matter but to have this stupid so called fix on your rig. I for one have never had my truck jump into gear from park but always use my E brake if I let it idle without me in it. If this really is a transmission problem Dodge should fix it right- not with some band aid alarm to remind us we are going backwards in our truck! As for my recall cards I just wipe hard and flush them.

Problem is... I found that if you come to a stop, toss it in park. . Sometimes the square doesn't go around the "P" even though it is in park.

Then I open the door to get out... HONK HONK HONK!!!

About the 3rd time I felt like ripping the horn out.

Try it late at night when you are trying to be quiet!!

The scotch-lock is a cool idea.

But I must be in the wrong generation or taught wrong. When I back up I use those reflective things on the side called Mirrors, if you have those small highway mirrors $265 will get you the towing mirrors, If I ever couldn't get the right veiw I do the glance out the window (rarely).

As far as the truck not making it to park, stop tossing and jumping out, you need to wait for the turbo to cool anyway.

Yes the fix is crudy but I also see some user fixes to keep the dodge fix from blaring the neighborhood.

Sorry just had to rant at the ranting... . :)

For those of us that back up a lot, this is a lousy fix. I'm backing into places all the time and I don't have the luxury of knowing when to stop. A lot of my backing up is done 6" at a time. I'm not going to shut the door for that. Luckily I have the 6spd and it's a moot point. (na na na na boo boo)

Edgemann, I had an 04. 5 before the 06. I chose not to have the bozo recall done and had no choice in the matter on the new truck. I did have the 04. 5 jump out of park once in the drive way. After that, I learned to just make sure that it was IN park and with the E brake on. The only thing that changed from what I did before the dodge trucks was make sure it was really in park.

And I still back up with the door closed, been doing it since I learned to drive a while back.

Well i sure as hell dont back with the door open either. DUH!!!!!!!!!!!

my point was it is a crappy fix[not] for a manufacturer defect on a 40000 dollar truck!!!!!!!!! You play with the shifter and play with it and maybe it is maybe it isnt in park. wanna trust ur life or someone elses on a maybe?????

I have the jumper across my seatbelt connectors, and I giggle everytime I see how many people are frustrated by this problem but refuse to implement the 5 minute permanent (but also quickly reversible) fix.

If you don't do the recall thay will not do any thing for you!!Do not throw stones. Only if you are prefect.

Dieselnerd you are open for A law suit !! You made A false report to the manufactor that put the monkey on your back if some get hurt or killed.
