Just got done installing a pyrometer and boost guages. All went very well thanks in part to all the threads I have read from alot of you folks. My question is, my boost seems to be sluggish to respond from a dead start. I installed it by removing the plug on the side behind the fuel filter. If I'm at idle and and stab the throttle about how much boost should I see? How would I now if an air leak was present?

That sounds right for the top numbers. Try building 5-10psi and then punching it. It should pop right on up there then.

If you have fueling mods, that's how you get black smoke to pour out--punching it at zero boost. Using the lag to spew partially burned fuel. When the boost comes up the smoke diminishes.

Stock trucks are designed not to smoke.

The engine also needs a load to make boost.
