so i picked up olga (that's another thread!) on monday night after hours and the tach still didn't work and i was charged $150 for work "not covered by warranty".

yesterday i was driving home from a dentist's appointment when bingo..... tach dies. i start driving to the dealer, phoned him i was on my way. he says "can't see you, we're booked and everyone is busy. "

i tell him, i'm on my way and he WILL put a code reader on my vehicle. so i get there (tach dies twice while i'm on the offramp 1/4 mi from the dealer!). i leave olga running so as not to risk losing the fault code. i get service writer (not sure if he is service manager... pro'ly not). he says it will be 15min... i say i'll wait and keep her running... .

5min later she's in the stall... . running. "bob" (anyone old enough to remember bill cosby's 200mph album?) slaps the old code reader on it..... can't get into the power train controller. while he is scratching his head... . tach dies!! then he does see the damaged crank shaft sensor (which they didn't see 2 days before, but which i had told them to look at). then the service writer says to leave it there. bob turns the engine off... ... and it won't restart!!! the other problem i had told them about. how 'bout that!!

i'll have to say an extra special prayer to the gods of mechanical vengance tonight.

as of today there were no updates.

sons of b!+c#&$.

p. s. the mechanic (don't get me wrong he seemed to be a nice guy) said he didn't have the proper update for the 24v. anyone hear that one before? did they change OBD protocol for the ISB?

just got a call from redwood city dodge. bad crank sensor and bad powertrain controller.

i get my truck back next monday night.

*******s!! last friday when it was in for all those problems all they did was re-flash the (bad) power controller.
 
One of my favorite records... . But the tech would need two scanners do work on bills car. LOL

PS I'm only 19 years old...

ok... . off topic till monday or tuesday when i get my truck back and i'll have a report on it... ...

after first sitting in the Cobra... .

"the speedometer went to 200MPH!! after that it said 'oh, wow!'"

after starting the mighty '66 427 side oiler Cobra and listening to it run... .

"the fire extinguisher had discharged itself... . and so had i... "
 
so i picked up my truck last night. seems everything is ok now. they didn't charge me the $50 deductible (probably because i took it back the day after i picked it up the last time for the same problems). the dealer , redwood city dodge, washed the truck and cleaned the driver side floor mat. the $500+ was covered under the emissions warranty. the crank sensor and the pcm was replaced.

now i have to ask the service manager about getting $103 of the $153 i paid the first time i brought the truck in. they charged me for diagnosis and to reflash what turned out to be a bad pcm.

i left a one page hand written description of what was going wrong and what i thought was the problem. my diagnosis was correct completely due to the research i did on this forum and tdr magazine.

thanks to all who post on this forum not just this topic.

Went to the dealer week before last. Truck had over 98,000 miles on it.

Brought it in to fix an oil leak on the pan.
Service Manager says "Can't do it. you have a "black box" on your truck. "

I said "Give me one reason that "black box" would cause an oil leak on the pan gasket?"

It was fixed under warranty.

Told them to check the U-joints and adjust the valvles.

Well needless to say Friday I was under my truck replacing the rear U-joint. Went and showed it to my 5 Star dealer and he said, "well we checked it". The best part was the dealer Crevling Dodge in Corpus Christi didnt even have a u-joint in stock.
