COMPLETE diesel newbie, bought a CTD, got questions

new here-so excited!

Just got my new 08 2500 CTD 4X4 Quad cab, fire engine red. From my name you can guess that I live in Phoenix. Last truck was a Ford, over 200,000 miles with only a few problems, looked at the new Fords and decided I liked the Dodge better. So here I am. I used to lurk around on the PSD site.

Smart move, was it a six. oh no? I love my 5. 9, but I think there is a 6. 7 in my future somewhere, maybe a 2010 when the DPF thing is sorted out.

As your former friends would tell you, welcome to the dark side. Hope you like it, I am stuck in the dark ages with my 12v, but I'm perfectly happy with the old girl.

Welcome to Dodge, Cummins and TDR, 3 great choices. What made you decide you like Dodge better. I made the Ferd to Dodge move in 1995 and have never looked back.

... stuck in the dark ages with my 12v...

I'm with you T but you've got your history all wrong.

Of course when referring to the Properly Valved '89-'98 Cummins engine in our Dodge trucks the period from '94-'98 should be referred to as The Renaissance Period or The Time of Enlightenment. How else can you explain the presence of the mighty P Pump, 12 valves, and an intercooler? It is not there by chance or a random combination or evolution of parts and pieces! No! The Builders determined that this was the best combination, 12 valves, a P7100 injector pump, and an intercooler. Then the EPA Lawgivers got involved and since then people have been trying to make their own twisted monstrosities with combinations of improperly valved engines, P pumps, and lots of custom machine work done in dark machine shops and garages hidden from the eyes of The Lawgivers.

Then The Builders discovered the High Pressure Common Rail fuel delivery system and for a time some were able to get away from the tyranny of the EPA Lawgivers and make LARGE amounts of power until the evil Lawgivers said "Thou shalt hang a DPF on this engine!" and now we're back in the REAL Dark Ages again!

Welcome to Dodge country Mark! I went through a soul-search of sorts in 2005 when looking for a new diesel truck. I've owned almost every brand over the years but have owned mostly mopars for the last dozen or so. Still, the diesel truck was such a huge purchase, I was very careful to ask around and check every source that I could. Several diesel mechanics being among those that I queried. Finally chose a 2005 Dodge Cummins 2500 4x4, with G56 transmission. So far zero problems and I'm very happy with the truck.
