My Peavey TransFex 212s took a dump yesterday after ~16 years of use. I love that amp, but it is looking like it is going to be very difficult to have fixed. That amp was capable of doing an amazing amout of effects, but I've really been using the tube and classic tube settings in my playing.

I've been out of the loop as far as the new amp lines out there. Anyone have any suggestions on a good reliable amp. I'd take suggestions on both tube and solid state. Must have a line out, etc.

Are you looking for a cabinet with separate head? or combo what kind of power are we talking about that you need? I have two different kinds

One set up that you need a truck to haul around all the crap needed to play, we use it for our saloon set up.

The other is a portable that is a combo with cabinet and head all in one. I use it 99% of the time to practice with, I also have taken it to truck stops when trying to raise money for a Child project, took my Gen to power it all. We use 3 separate ones on that set up, 1 for each of the guitars and one for voice. 2 of those are Combo set up. These are for Acoustic Guitar Amplification by the way. And are Two Fenders for guitar and 1 Electro-voice that is used to run thru to another fender with separate head we use this set up for voice because I get a bit pitch-ie if I cant hear myself sing and its hard to pick the guitar with one hand and the other sticking a finger in my ear, so I use Ultimate Ears 900s Noise isolating Earphones.

On the saloon set up I use Marshall White head Amps THE OLD ONES that dim the lights for 4 city blocks when you power up, BUT WHAT SOUND!! BIL has newer Fender and Vox he uses them for either or Acoustic or Elect guitar, voice is ran thru a newer Marshall the saloon gets kind of worried when they see the electrical meter outside on the wall spinning so fast it looks as if its ready to EXPLODE using the old Marshall White heads. Again with the Earphones ran into a Fender seems the fender is better for voice for what ever reason.

I don't think you could go wrong with any of the three listed above, I don't know what you intend to do with them. If you give me what your looking for as far as usage I will run it by my BIL, he has played professionally for many years and is a studio musician that still consults with groups and writes, HELL HE CAN EVEN COVER MY HOWLING IN THE WRONG KEY AND MAKE IT SOUND LIKE IT WAS INTENDED TO BE THAT WAY :-laf

Hope this came out right Im kind of in a hurry to go outside and help some cows that are starting to birth again.

See ya

BIG

I play mostly big band jazz. Every once in a while I will sit in with a country group, some bluegrass, and maybe a few oldies. I don't want to mess with a mini-stack, just a nice self contained, fairly powerful unit.

That Peavey of mine is well over 100w. I don't remember specifically, but it is quite powerful. I don't need anything anywhere near that fancy this time around, but that TransFex Pro 212s worked well for me. I'm still trying to confirm with Peavey if there is someone able to fix the thing. I left several messages today and am waiting to hear back.

If you like what you have ya might want to check out a repair VERY THOROUGHLY, BIL had something go out on one of his, it was pretty old he thought maybe time to up grade went to the music store and NOTHING compared to his older unit without paying out the A for it. He looked around and found an Electronic Repair shop, the guy new NOTHING about music just electronics, he figured what did he have to loose, the guy fixed it, its been working for a long time.

BIG BAND Jazz!!!, when I was in High School in So. Calif myself and another guy use to play at Disneyland for vacation relief or an extra if needed. I played Trumpet at the Carnation Ice cream Dixie Land Jazz stage. In our school band I was 1st chair Solo and Henry was first chair 1st part, basically the same thing except that if there was a solo part I got it. (BIG DEAL) when we played at Disneyland we were like 3rd part, sounded like the tuba part, Ohhhm paa Ohmmm Paa Boring as hell, but we played at DISNEYLAND!!!! Oo. Kind of Proud of that.

Our High School Marching Band got invited every Christmas to be in the Disney Christmas Parade.

I think I paid around $1500 for the amp I have back in the late '90's. It is/was a very good unit. The store where I purchased it no longer has an in house repair shop. The were checking today to see if it could be sent back to Peavey. Still haven't heard back. A buddy of mine gave me the name of an independent amp repair guy in Pittsburgh. I was on the road all day today and didn't have a chance to call him. Maybe tomorrow when I'm in the office.

Might be a better deal for ya. I know the guitars I have now I wouldn't spend as much as they cost now compared to what I payed for them.

You play electric? I have an electric that I don't often play (Fender), I have two Martin D28's and One Ovation one martin is Acoustic only, the other is Acoustic Amplified the Ovation Acoustic only, is what I take to places that it could get some ruff handling.
